SoxAce
I'll never doubt the Sox for calling this stud up again! Well he was rushed. But I'm glad we are giving him consistant at-bats to learn this. Still wished we saw more of the gap-to gap machine of Slayer from college to the whole minors, but that last at-bat, opposite field hit.. is nice to see from him. greg775
Whether we won or lost this game, it was one of the best baseball games I've watched in a while in terms of excitement. Very true. Great win. We'd have bemoaned the errors had we lost. But we didn't. We won. Love the fact Nix didn't whiff and took the walk and Beckham showed great poise and guts and you got to love the fact he drilled it to the opposite field. It was funny how he was running away from AJ. I was thinking they were going to dogpile him. Great inning from Bobby. Great hit by Beckham to win it. Glad we finished it in nine. Extra innings mighta been tough. If Bob had to go another inning he might not be available Sunday. And if he didn't go the 10th, Liney might have gotten lit up. Victory is sweet. Go get drunk. It curved back towards him and only landed about 10-15 feet behind him. Edited June 28, 2009 by chw42
greg775
f Bradley had any kind of range or even tried to go after that ball, he might have had a chance at it. It curved back towards him and only landed about 10-15 feet behind him. That would have been a huge bummer if that had happened. It was a blast off Beckham's bat and like Fathom said, the of had to be in a bit in case of a hard single. It would have been a crime to see some dope like Bradley rob Beckham of his first glory moment and cost us a game potentially.

BearSox
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 07:22 PM) Ha, my brother called to tell me the same thing. The only pitch Beckham can really do a lot of damage on right now is an outer-half fastball. With his current batting style, Beckham likely won't be able to handle any good fastballs on the inner part. He's got his bat pointing towards the pitcher so much and someone his size who doesn't have a ton of strength, it's gonna be real tough for him to get his bat around fast enough. I really think if we want to expect long term success out of Beckham, he's gonna have to change his approach a bit.

We had no business winning that game, that being said, what a great one to steal!!! That's one (correct) way of looking at it, but another (also correct) way of looking at is we should have won this game easily if not for the fact that this team can't execute even the simplest of plays on defense. It's a nice win, but this team still has serious issues all over the place.

True. The offense and even the pitching to a degree (if you take into account the defense they've been dealing with) has been a bit better lately, which is why we're amazingly 8-5 since we started that road trip in Milwaukee. But the defense has been unacceptable. Edited June 28, 2009 by whitesoxfan101

He's as mentally fragile a professional athlete as i've ever seen (and that's REALLY saying something.) He has all the talent in the world, but I'd never want a guy like that on my team. I respect what you are saying, but if every scout thinks this guy is a future stud and he's hit on all levels, then why the hell will he have to change his approach?? That makes little sense. I mean if he needs to change his approach, then are his past accomplishments a mirage?
