Sox Worst Fielding Team in the AL

Our highest rating fielder (for those who are qualified) according to RZR with .886 is....... Jermaine Dye, ha. Konerko's next on .875.

Next best is Alexei with .817, which shows you how much of a drop-off there is.

They also lead the AL in UER with 41, and have only made 191 plays OOZ, while the AL average is 218.

At least Beckham has been a slight upgrade on Fields (who was woeful with a RZR of .659 ouch), but Beck's still pretty subpar compared to other third baseman.

However Pods has a .914 RZR in LF and a .958 RZR in CF, so he has been a pleasent surprise.

I know that Konerko doesnt have much if any range, but if it is within his range he has picked it this year. i couldnt believe that was his 1st error yesterday, but he has had some pretty great stops so far this season

The amazing stat for the Sox this year is 43 unearned runs. They gave up 53 in all of 2005.

I find it interesting that every place other than baseball reference has the sox with with 43 unearned runs given up... while baseball reference has them at 41 runs given up. Every other stat matches up perfectly across the board. Odd.

The could be counting them by team instead of individual pitcher, which can be two different totals. For example. A starting pitcher is in for a two out error. The manager brings in a reliever, who promptly gives up a two run homer. The two runs are uneared for the team total, but the reliever does get an earned run for his own total by giving up the homer. Its an oddity.

Pretty much knew coming into the season that defense would be a season-long issue. Other than Konerko and to a lesser extent Dye, it's been pretty bad. And this isn't even getting into the chronic problem we have when it comes to holding and throwing out runners.

The difference is...it's actively getting worse. A month or two ago this same team had a 10 game errorless streak.
