Considering the lawsuit Clemens filed against his former trainer, I find it hard to believe he is on the list. The list in this thread is BS. There would be some minor leaguers for sure, and why is everyone who has been implicated since on the list? You would think a couple wouldn't be on there.

If the names were supposed to stay secret forever then Clemons wasen't too worried about it I bet and decided to try and save face.

The government had that list in 2004. If he was on it...then telling Congress what he told them would be the stupidest move any human could possibly make. You could have charged him with perjury 2 hours later.

Edit: Ditto for Tejada, Palmeiro, etc.

While it is looking more and more like that list is fake, I doubt it would surprise anyone if that list is indeed true or many of the players on that list are on the real one.

EDIT: Yeah, the fact that Burnitz is on the list twice, that pretty much indicates that whoever came up with it got lazy towards the end and this is fake. If you noticed, the names are grouped by teams. And in 2003, Burnitz played for the Dodgers and Mets, and he's grouped with both teams. Looks like whoever came up with it knows their stuff and isn't an idiot, but he came up with this list by selecting possible PED users by looking at every team's rosters in 2003.

The same lawsuit that was mostly thrown out by a federal judge last February?

There is some confusion on whether the alleged list is 103 or 104 names long. Different places say different things. The fact that Burnitz is on there twice might make sense.

If he tested positive he wouldn't have filed in the first place. The list isn't right. I'm sure some of the names are probably correct, but no obscure names? Please. I find it hard to believe Contreras was all hopped up on steroids in Cuba.

I've already listed some of the obscure names. Brent Abernathy??? Old players like Sandy Alomar Jr. and Terry Adams? Was Jose Lima in anybody's spring training camp? As I mentioned before, he was signed midseason from the Newark Bears.

This "If they filed suits or testified on Capitol Hill they would or must not have taken PEDs" logic is lame. I could just as easily say whenever someone files a countersuit they must be innocent. Guess what, some celebs and athletes think they are above the law and get around the system and some athletes are just stupid. Miguel Tejada has received probation for perjury. He took PEDs and lied under oath. Wouldn't surprise me if the courts find Clemens guilty for perjurty.

deadspin's take on why there is some doubt on the list

There is going to be excitement when a list like that is leaked, even if it's fake, simply because the full, real list will eventually come out. Guaranteed.

Ummm, Alex Sanchez is on the list.

I think Jay Gibbons (suspended,) Brent Abnernathy, Dan Smith (?,) Terry Adams (way old,) and Jose Lima (was out of the league until the Royals picked him up midseason) meet those specs.

If a guy tested positive for steroids, it'd be pretty easy to make up some list and put him on there. And, just looking at Adams 2003 season, it'd be pretty easy to just say "yeah, he had a good season amongst a myriad of mediocre seasons, let's throw him on too."

Further, this list is put into order from East to West, AL to NL. Why is Brent Abernathy listed among the Royals when he was on the Devil Rays to begin the season?

And, in one singular point that really shouldn't but does for me, I'd say Jose Lima's name discredits this entire list. You had to be in a major league camp to test, and he was not.

Good catch, Bear!
