knightni
DH? Shouldn't they be using him at catcher since he's such a high pick?
danman31
QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 06:13 PM) DH? Shouldn't they be using him at catcher since he's such a high pick? Probably just wanted to ease him in a bit. Let him focus solely on the hitting first, worry about fielding tomorrow.

NorthSideSox72
Shirek seems to be handling AA pretty well. K's are a little low, but his overall results are quite good.
ThunderBolt
I can’t think of a scenario where Phegley does anything but hit the hell out of the ball for the rest of the year. It’s what he’s done his entire professional career. Honestly, I see him starting at AA to begin next year.

JPN366
FYI, Jordan Danks wasn't wearing a brace anymore and was playing toss in the warmup before the game. He also caught the ceremonial first pitches. Edited June 29, 2009 by JPN366

I saw him a few times in college and he's a solid all-around player. I'm not sure he's quite prospect material, but he should do well through A ball. NorthSideSox72
NDFA Chase Blackwood goes 3-5 with 2 doubles and a HR in his debut at GF. Dubler is theoretically the starter there (8th rd pick last year), but in 2 games he's hitless (does have 2 walks though), so he'd better check six, especailly after his less-than-stellar 2008 at Bristol. JPN366
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 04:32 PM) You can call it semantics, but switching from metal to wood bats is a big difference. All in all, it takes the basic skill. Aluminum gives you more pop off the bat and the ball travels faster. The batting averages of college players usually are well over .300 most of the time. Wood makes the hitter rely more on their own strength and making good contact. You have the skill both ways or neither. Beckham probably will only be a 20 HR guy at most with wood bats and hit a lot of doubles, but no one is complaining about that. J.D. Drew could hit 40 HR in college and has never approached that in the pros.
Cali
Is it just me or has Dayan seriously cut down on his K's and increased his walks recently?
