Verlander: 34 IP, 2.91 ERA, 30 hits, 14 walks, 34 k's

Danks: 34 IP, 2.91 ERA, 23 hits, 10 walks, 30 k's.

 

The only difference is Danks is 2-3 in his last 5 while Verlander is 2-1. ERA's, IP, runs identical, Danks with a lower WHIP, Verlander with a couple more K's.

Gavin may not have the K's but he's been better. The only one I'd legit say has outpitched him after tonight is King Felix.

He's got a great arm but has really no control right now. Am I pissed, yes. Do I want to see someone on the Indians hit tomorrow, yes. But I don't blame Perez for hitting Alexei and Dye at all, it was clearly accidental.

I think you’re right, Bear Sox. Especially, given the circumstances of the game and Perez’s’ minor league track record. It was a bit dodgy after the Wedge freak out though.

We got people suggesting trading Pods and Dye who are the only reason this team has any life, and we might as well be paying Pods by the hour with the cheap salary we got him at. Too much panicking and not enough optimism. Hard to talk baseball when everyone wants to talk about where players should be traded and who we are going to get. The majority of "prospects" stay just that, prospects. You would think that trading for prospects guarantee wins in the future the way some people talk around here. Can we relax and enjoy some baseball please? Go Sox!

Anybody counting on anything from Podsednik beyond this year is foolish. I think even the front office knows that. I could still see him being brought back, but they better have a good alternative in mind if they do.

 

Also, this team is starting to turn into something fun. I'm happy. And Gavin Floyd's ERA down to 4.12, and I was never worried. Gavin's good.

There's a difference between riding out the season with Pods and hoping for him to carry the team into the future. I'm just saying he should not be traded. The same people who say we shouldn't count on Pods next year were the ones laughing when we signed him to a minor league contract. Truth is we don't know and I wish some people would admit that more often.

I still continue to say Gavin Floyd is the best starter on the team. The guy is stellar and his ability to pitch deep into games is why he's going to win 20 games at least once, if not more times, in his career. Oh and for those that called me a moron for pointing out Gavin Floyd I say whose the moron now!!!!

What people did not understand at the time of the signing, while he was struggling in his first first 8 starts when he had an era of 7.71, and even now... there is no way we could lose in extension. There is no doubt in my mind floyd would have made 15+ million in arbitration, and realistically, it would have been a good deal more. Jon garland signed for 6.25 million for the 2009 season. Jon garland. Garland for the past year and a half has sported an era of roughly 5 with a whip of 1.5. No one can tell me that floyd will not be worth 5 million in 2011 and 7 million in the 2012 season. Even with how the economy has impacted contracts during the second half of the off-season... it will not remain that way for eternity. Contracts are bound to go back up sooner rather than later.

 

Floyd is averaging 6.3875 innings pitched this season which would be good for roughly 210 innings pitched. Workhorses do not grow on trees.

Sure there are people who feel that we should trade off every and any piece for the sake of it, no matter what position we are in, but frankly, they are fools. Those people have got to realize you do not have to be the best team in any sport to win a championship, once you get in, literally anything can happen, it's all about whoever if the hottest at the moment.

 

Podsednik, dye, and anyone else of any worth should, no, i mean has to be traded if the sox are substantially back in the standings... in the few days coming up to the deadline. It's only logical. We cannot be afraid of hurting a players feelings (which i'm fairly certain everyone on the sox would understand... it's a business afterall) if it benefits our future. It's also not always about trading people from the majors league roster for minor leaguers at the deadline. There are cases when teams pick up important pieces that can fill a major hole on their major league roster, while unloading someone they had no intention of ever bringing back in the first place.

 

Prospects in no way guarantee wins, hell, if anything soxtalk as a whole vastly overrates the system (don't tell them i said that), mostly due to how barren the system has been for as long as it has.
