Balta1701
This was mentioned in the catch-all but I'm promoting it to a thread, esp. since the 'Rats made a 2nd move. The Pittsburgh Pirates, swapping outfielders at a rapid rate for the second successive season, sent starting left fielder Nyjer Morgan to the Washington Nationals in a four-player deal involving outfielder Lastings Milledge and also shipped backup Eric Hinske to the Yankees on Tuesday. The Pirates, who have pushed to restock a thin farm system by making numerous trades over the last year, get Milledge and reliever Joel Hanrahan from the Nationals for the fleet Morgan and left-hander Sean Burnett, a former first-round draft pick. Earlier, they sent 2002 AL Rookie of the Year Hinske to the Yankees for minor-league right-hander Casey Erickson and outfielder Eric Fryer. The Yankees also get some cash to help pay Hinske's $1.5 million salary.
knightni
So, the Lusitania and the Titanic are swapping deck chairs, eh?
SoxFanForever
I didn't even know Hinske was on the Pirates.
Reddy
what the hell are the pirates doing trading legitimate players for... illegitimate ones?
sircaffey
Talent win for the Bucs. Performance remains to be seen.
RockRaines
QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) what the hell are the pirates doing trading legitimate players for... illegitimate ones? Which one was legit? They traded a 29 year old slap hitter for a 5 years younger talented corner OF'er who has shown signs of developing. Outside of the Bay trade, the Pirates have made some real good ones lately.
santo=dorf
What other trades have they made? Paulino for a minor leaguer? Torres (who put up a solid season for a divisional rival) for nothing? Acquiring the Tyler Yates? Gotta love when they claimed Matt Morris off of waivers and made a deal with the Giants only to release him early into next season. Personally I hope they never sniff .500 again. It'd be funny.
hogan873
I thought I remember there being some traffic on this site about wanting the Sox to acquire Milledge. Seems like a good trade for the Bucs.
ThunderBolt
I really don't understand what the Nat's GM is doing here. This and the Dukes demotion scream of a guy more concerned with chemistry then talent. That's a HUGE problem.
BearSox
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 05:26 PM) I really don't understand what the Nat's GM is doing here. This and the Dukes demotion scream of a guy more concerned with chemistry then talent. That's a HUGE problem. Chemistry is huge in baseball. Probably bigger in baseball than any other sport, IMO. I don't believe in "chemistry"; that 70's A's dynasty hated one another and it was well documented.

That makes no sense, how would chemestry be the most important in baseball rather than football/basketball, where you have to actually play as a team to get the job done. ThunderBolt
How about the Bronx is Burning Yankees, the ’86 Mets, and the Bonilla led Marlins? Winning builds chemistry, it’s never the other way around.

SoxFan562004
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) Chemistry is huge in baseball. Probably bigger in baseball than any other sport, IMO. there have been many teams that couldn't stand each other, the NYY weren't fond of Reggie and the A's of the 70's would get in to fist fights in the clubhouse. When a team wins chemistry is spun
