Brian
Kicks off tomorrow. I'm going to Vegas Sunday morning and plan on going Monday to watch some of Day 4. I was told I can just show up and watch. Hope that is true. Will a pro win this year?
witesoxfan
If they are doing the whole November thing again, we won't know till then. The pros have been making great strides in recent years though, so sooner, rather than later, you are going to see a pro win. Considering the amateur-to-pro ratio is like 30:1 (or techincally more, considering that a lot of "pro" players are really amateur players), the odds say no, but that's just how good some of these guys are. I hope Mouth wins a big one soon, he's played so damn well in that tourney over the past 4-5 years.

Some of the amateurs are good players, but you have other ones that play wrecklessly and get lucky, knocking out better players in the process. I'm assuming they still do the November Nine. The Critic
Eh, what would they show instead? The Red Sawkz? The Yank-Me's? I'd rather watch poker or strongman shows than college sports.

Brian
Sounds like Hellmuth had a typical blow up today. According to him, you should never call on a draw. I went over and watched Sunday and Monday. His grand enterance this year was him, dressed as Caesar with a bunch of girls with him. He walked around and shook people's hands like he was an emperor. Kinda funny.

I was actually suprised by the amount of people yelling at him when he entered. Calling him and idiot and such.
The Critic
I think Hellmuth is entertaining, but he's also really smug and condescending so I enjoy watching him lose. I hate how he won't let another player enjoy winning a hand because he has to pout about how the other guy played wrong but still won. I know it's partly how the shows are edited, but it's also partly him being an asshole.
Brian
Hellmuth with a bad first hour today. Caught bluffing and lost 300,000 chips really fast. I've been following here: http://www.pokernews.com/wsop/2009/event-57/
retro1983hat
I have been really into poker for about 10 years now, but I am glad the craze has eased up a bit and they are not just showing every event. I feel the super top tier guys like Hellmuth, Chan, Ngyuen, Brunson, Lederer and Annie Duke have basically made their money in the last 5 years by simply playing in tourneys where they are guaranteed money like the ones on the Travel Channel. I like the WSOP because it's a buy in and no guarantee of $. That being said, the amatuers and online players have killed the skill players by playing hands like 2-7 and then flopping 2-2-7. That's actually something Negreanu or Hansen will do quite a bit. Play as many hands as you can, because if you are the best player on the table, you will win the majority of the time you put money into the pot. But those same people I'll tell you also respect the hell outta him. I love Hellmuth. Hellmuth is a douchebag plain and simple. He thinks he should never be called on any bet and when he gets caught it's always the guy who catches him that is the idiot. As a top player i guess you should repsect the guy but the way he acts and disrespect he shows anyone else kind of burns that for me. Like it or not....luck does play a small roll in poker no matter who you are and he seems to fail to realize that.
