In the names of Douglas, Simon, and Dirksen, what has happened to the Illinois Senators?

Durbin really isn't that bad... and I've actually called on him directly before, and he's helped me out. Well, his staff, same thing.

And that is the factor that most people do not think about. The staffs are everything. And they jump from party to party and state to state.

Eh, reasoning like that is why so many congressman get re-elected.

What's Durbin done that shows him be unfit for re-election? That's what I'm trying to say. I like him.

Hey, who doesn't like Dick? And since Dick's staff helped you out and all, even more reasons to like Dick.

well if i talk to a congressman's staff and the next thing I know he introduces a bill that includes some stuff that is exactly what I suggested, I'm real happy about that. likely a coincidence, but it's sure better than getting ignored by someone who represents you.

Constituent services are more like using your staff to help constituents with bureaucracy, in addition to stuff like sponsoring students for military academies and the like.

Were going to baptize it in the name of God and Palin? Cuz that would have been cool!

Sadly, she may go the way of Dan Quayle. Intelligent, witty, but the media is just killing her. However, now, unlike Quayle's time, being crucified by the media touches on a trigger for the GOP.

Very true. She has proven her intelligence and wit by discerning the Real America from the fake America.

His bureaucracy seems to be pretty efficient, his staff got back to me in like 3 days or however long my letter sat in the queue. I was very surprised, I expected to be treated like a number and expected a half-assed acknowledgment a couple weeks later. They even followed up and the results were above and beyond what I expected. I was left with the impression that he honestly cares about his job. Granted, yes, it was just his staff, but they still represent him.

I don't post this to bash Palin but merely for fascination.

The Mudflats: "On a hunch, I reviewed online lists of all the men and women who've been elected governor of their state since the year 1900. Pored over them for a few hours. Over 1200 politicians have taken that first-term oath of office. Some soon died in office. Many resigned to accept other positions in government, including Spiro Agnew who was 'tapped' by Nixon after being the Governor of Maryland for about five minutes. On a handful of occasions, a first-termer was dragged off to the slammer or impeached. One was incapacitated by a nervous breakdown and one left just as impeachment came knocking on his door. So -- how many out of over 1200 just up and quit before the end of their term?"

Three: Jim McGreevy, Eliot Spitzer and Sarah Palin."

Given the scandalous circumstances surrounding the departure of the other 2 governors, it appears that Sarah Palin is the first governor in at least 109+ years to resign office for seemingly no obvious reason.

My 1st post in the Buster in months ... but if my family had been raked over the coals like Palin's has I'd bail out too. She has her priorities right. Family first, career a distant second.

And if we were unfortunate to have elected McCain and he passed away for some reason? Would quitting then be ok if she didn't like the way her family was treated?

Raked over the coals. LOL. Wasn't her nickname barracuda? Should have been guppy.

Welcome back. :cheers Great point.

Is there a double standard here? Would people feel the same way if she was a guy?

Damn right there's a double standard here. It has nothing to do with gender though. It's all about her being a consevative in a USA that has a blatantly liberal media slant.

I'd love to see your reaction if Obama quit next year because he didn't like the way his family was being treated by the media. And I don't mean the back flips you would do because he's a communist/socialist/terrorist or whatever you think he is.
