rangercal
QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 01:56 AM) LOL at Scott Podsednik even being in the conversation. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I still can't believe that dude has a starting gig. If this is a serious post then you should go back on hiatus, Or at least back to the NBA threads Edited July 6, 2009 by rangercal

Milkman delivers
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 01:58 AM) Why isn't Dye even on the list of five that you get to vote for? Baseball is disgraceful. This guy is everything that's good about baseball and a WS MVP. At least give Sox fans a chance to vote him in. I honestly think that baseball will refrain from putting White Sox players on the final vote card because of the way we all got Podsednik and Pierzynski voted in consecutively. They won't risk it again because nobody gives a s*** about our players on a national level, and it does them no good to have many White Sox players representing the AL. santo=dorf
Mark Buerhle is one of the premier pitchers in the AL if not both leagues Yet some Sox fans can't even spell his name correctly after almost a decade of his services on the South Side. soxfan3530
Since there is a love of JD love being thrown around in this thread (and rightfully so) i'll ask the age old question. BearSox
Anyone think Thome might hang it up after this year? I think it'd take him at least 2 more years to get to 600, and he's really slowing down big time. He can't hit lefties at all it seems like (except for a select few), he isn't clutch at all, his bat is slowing down, is starting to struggle to catch up to good fastballs, etc. Plus, he can only play DH and is an injury concern. I love Jim, but no way I want him back next year.

I'll say Thome's done when I'm convinced he's no longer coming out of that funk. He's still just as streaky as always; next week he could hit 5 home runs and I wouldn't be surprised. BearSox
One thing is for sure though, Big Jim still walks a ton and still gets on base at a great clip.

I completely agree, I'm just saying that so many people here love Thome. Sure, pick out his homer in the 163rd game last year, the one earlier this year against Oakland I think it was, etc. It just seems like he never does it in the late innings. I'm sure there's a stat that proves me wrong, though. Let Thome walk and bring back Dye to DH. Danks in CF, Quentin in RF, ? in LF. BearSox
The thing about Q... will he be able to play LF, let alone RF with how his foot is? He might wind up being the DH next year.

If they both need it then...I don't know. Edited July 6, 2009 by whitesoxbrian

Don't forget the game-winning, three-run HR on opening day against the Royals. I'm not sure what some people want from Jim. Even at his advanced age, he's still one of the most productive DH's in the AL.
MattZakrowski
Is it possible that Dye isn't on the final man vote because he's the 1st choice to replace Hamilton?
greg775
I love Jim, but no way I want him back next year. Is Hamilton definitely out? That better be why Dye isn't on that list. The Sox brass, led by its owner, should personally call out baseball. Jerry needs to speak out and say the all star game is a sham w/out Dye even one of the five being on the fan vote. As far as Thome, why is it that Big Hurt is out of baseball and Thome is in baseball? Both men CANNOT run anymore. Big Jim can barely make it from first to third. He cannot make it from second to home on a hit anywhere, just like the Big Hurt. I love Jimmy, but what's the difference between him and Frank now? Neither can run. Have you seen David Ortiz run? Have you seen Travis Hafner run? DH's get paid to mash. And Thome still mashes.

greg775
So is Big Hurt a masher. I was just asking a question of why is Hurt out of baseball and Thome still in? You can't tell me Hurt wouldn't hit 20-30 home runs if he played as much as Jimmy. Jimmy better heat up if he wants to hit 25-30 dingers this year. I said I like Thome, but he cannot run a lick. You got to admit he is probably the slowest man in baseball right now.
