JUGGERNAUT Posted September 4, 2003 Share Posted September 4, 2003 No update today, but I do have Manuel blunder comments to make: Now I'm not saying these blunders change the outcomes, but they certainly contributed to the defeats. Let's begin with last night. You are facing the toughest hitting lineup in AL with an average BP at best. YOU DO NOT TAKE OUT YOUR BEST HITTER for a pinch runner in a tie game! If Thomas remains in the game then Thomas at best gets to 3rd on Maggs double. There is no way Thomas is sent home. That leaves men on 2nd & 3rd with 1 out. Now this had a domino effect ... Rowand in for Thomas left Harris as the only sub in the 10th. YOU DO NOT RISK THE 2nd OUT on a short double to LF. Garciaparra is know for his dead on balls accuracy in making clutch throws. Now certainly, RON 2,3 w 1 out betters the SOX scoring chances than RON 3, 2 outs. This 2 blunders greatly contributed to the loss. They are not Manuel's per-se but he is ultimately the man in charge. Monday night: -A Rios grounded out to second, J Crede to third. -R Alomar hit by pitch. -S Williamson relieved B Lyon. -C Lee grounded into double play, second to shortstop to first, R Alomar out at second. Lee is not a baby any more! He should have approached this ab with only 1 thought in mind : SWING FOR THE FENCES! Now yes I give part of the blame to Manuel. With as many HR hitters there are on this team that should excel in hitting deep FB's to score the run for 3rd. This should be practiced routinely. It's called TAKING ADVANTAGE OF YOUR TEAM'S STRENGTHS! The team weakness is obviously bunting. With the exception of both Alomar's it's an ill-conconceived attempt. I know some of you still defend this mental midget but I'm sorry there is just too much evidence supporting the fact that he's NOT THE RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB! Manuel hired Kim & is therefore responsible for his decisions. In a 4-4 gm coming off a 2-1 loss Manuel BETTER DAMN WELL be in sync with Kim's job at 3B. YOU DO NOT SEND A RUNNER HOME FOR THE 2ND OUT UNLESS YOU ARE DAMN SURE HE'S GOING TO MAKE IT! When you look at this team's strengths & weaknesses & MANUEL's management of both, he's done a horrible job. They are in 1st place because despite Manuel's weakness to manage the team, the team's strengths based on individual play have been so strong that they have overcome the weaknesses. The SOX remaining schedule: 3 v CLE, 4 v MIN, 3 @ BOS, 3 @ MIN, 3 v NYY, 3 v KC, 4 @ KC Now if you think against these teams that the teams strengths alone will be able to win this division, you're either looney or a sCrUB fan. It's going to take good, sound, fundamental managing to help win against these teams. Now I'm not saying fire JM, but KW should certainly have a talk with him & lay down the law the rest of the way. If KW needs to be on a radio to JM during the game, so be it. But I want someone who has demonstrated better intelligence calling the shots. OVER THE COURSE OF a 162 GM SEASON that evens out. I'm sure both KC & Min have had their share as well. Of course they have REAL managers that PLAY THEIR A TEAM nearly every night. I'm sure our dips*** Manuel's tinkering played a role in some of those loses. Don't make me look it up. This season sucks because KW put together a team poised to win the division & go far. But because we have a s*** for brains manager who has a problem with playing the A team every night it's going for naught. This was a very tough season for SOX fans & the last series felt like watching my dog died. In fact that's the best analogy I can think of. When Everett & Alomar arrived it was like the family got a new dog to replace the one that died of natural causes about a month earlier. This dog was great! He could run, catch, & had great enthusiasm. After a few months of ups & downs the end came. The downs were few & the ups felt great running alongside my new dog. But just as we we came to the end of the alleyway, there I was holding my dog tightly by the leash waiting for a break in the traffic. Well Jurrasic (in honor of Carl) so a cat on the other side & lept into the street. The leash broke & Jurrasic was history. I saw him catapulted into the air breaking his fall on tree limbs. I stood over my new best friend in agony. I felt powerless. I ran home, got the car & drove him to the vet which talking to the vet on the phone. Despite all our best efforts there was no way to save him. That's how I felt through the MIN series. Now I'm very mellow realizing I'll never see this particular dog again. It feels like a funeral. Our best option is to keep drumming in JR's head the same words KW does: "YOU'RE NOT GETTING ANY YOUNGER!". It's time to clean house: There are 4 $$$ players I want back next year: Lee, Everett, Robby, & Sandy. There are 4 $ players I want back next year: Crede, Garland, Marte The rest I could care less about. For those who are blind, we lost the Bradford for Olivo trade .. BIG TIME! If Olivo ever figures it out, he'll be too expensive to keep. Meanwhile the A's have gotten a solid setup man for pennies on the $. I still remember 2000 when the sidearming duo of Wunsch & Bradford was nearly unstoppable. If JR has the opp to fire KW & hire Beane I would spare no cost to do so. He is clearly the best GM in MLB.
