Funny, as that's my same attitude about Quentin. Call him up, and if the pain is too much, shut him down for the season.

Then we bring in Juan Pierre when McCourt agrees to eat 80% of his contract as a favor to JR and Ozzie has his NL team with Juan, Scotty Pods, Getz, Beckham, Nix and Ramirez to utilize as he sees fit.

I hate Justin Morneau's face. He reminds you of that person you know that you just don't like, simply because they have a face you want to smack with an oar.

That's how I feel too. Except I also feel that way about Span, Harris, Punto, Mauer, Gomez, Kubel, Cuddyer, Crede, Blackburn, Baker, Nathan, Liriano, etc.

I'm calling bulls*** with the tentativeness thing. He got squeezed mightily against Span, and then he didn't give in to two of the best hitters in baseball on a 3-2 count. Kubel always destroys the Sox, so that's nothing new. I think it's pretty pathetic by Hawk to go nuts on Danks like this and call him out.

I agree with this 100%. It's total bush league for Hawk to think he KNOWS what was going on in Dank's head. John has shown he's got balls time and time again during his time in a White Sox uniform and I don't think this game scares him. He wasn't in game 163 last year, so its doubtful he was here...BS by Hawk, who is being a baby with the bad first inning

that was the first curve ball danks has thrown all game...im really not sure why he doesn't use it more often...i mean he is effective enough with his change and cutter, but his curveball is at very worst an average pitch and probably better

wow beach ball at a baseball game...man you are cool

Crede with a bad decision there, as he would have easily got Thome out at home.

Oh, and I just got a call that Colon's fastball was at 84 mph yesterday.

Giving him the 'ol fathom discount are you? :D

Bartolo Colon's five-inning outing Thursday night for Triple-A Charlotte was more encouraging than his April 23 outing against Baltimore, according to a major league source who witnessed both outings.

"He definitely threw more breaking pitches and change-ups," the source told the Tribune Friday after Colon pitched five innings of one-run ball against Triple-A Norfolk. "You could notice he was throwing more sliders and wasn't afraid to throw them to left-handers as well as right-handers."

The source was unaware that the Sox wanted Colon to throw more breaking pitches. Colon was tagged for five runs on eight hits and two walks without striking out a batter in a loss at Baltimore on April 23.

"He was throwing in the 88-to-90 (mph) range," the source added. "It looked like when he wanted to throw harder, he did. He was throwing more four-seam fastballs. I could tell because he was trying to raise the hitters' eye level."

MINNEAPOLIS - Bartolo Colon's five-inning outing Thursday night for Triple-A Charlotte was more encouraging than his April 23 outing against Baltimore, according to a major league source who witnessed both outings.

Colon threw 40 of 65 pitches for strikes. He is scheduled to pitch seven innings Tuesday night for Class-A Kannapolis at Savannah. He remains in contention to pitch July 24 against Detroit.

The Sox haven't decided how they will align their rotation for the start of the second half, but Mark Buehrle and Jose Contreras remain contenders to start the first two games against Baltimore.

The Sox also requested waivers on left-handed reliever Jimmy Gobble for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.

Considering the velocity difference most White Sox pitchers seem to have between what they are reportedly throwing in the minors and what the board at USCF says, 84 last night seems accurate. However, he hadn't pitched in a while and was throwing 88 before and would have been fine as a 5th starter if he mixed in a few breaking pitches.

I've been calling him Meathead for years. He should be at a high school football game cheering for a kids he has no connection with, but because he played there 20 years ago, still feels loyalty.

It was a lot easier to hate Torii Hunter, Jacque Jones, Rivas, Mientkiewicz and AJ (ESPECIALLY THOSE TWO), LaTroy Hawkins, JC Romero, Steady Eddie Guardado....but could never really hate Santana or Radke, you just had to respect those guys.

Oh, and Redmond, Blanco, Matt LeCroy, Lew Ford, Jason Tyner, Jason Bartlett, Denny Hocking and any other unidentified Piranhas I left off the list.

Don't hate Punto because he sucks so bad offensively I want to see his silly slides into 1B just to laugh at him.

And hating how Nathan was automatic death for us when he came into a game.

Poreda 97 mph = 91 mph as Colon 90 mph = 84 mph

All this talk about Colon coming back so soon makes me wonder if KW is trying to trade Richard and/or Poreda.

"He'll be a hell of a ping pong player."

"He's the prettiest player in this league."

-Hawk Harrelson, on Joe Mauer.

It's quite obvious he has mancrushes on a number of the Twins. Mauer is legit though, as he's probably a top 5 player in the league right now. I wonder how the Cubs feel about picking Prior over him. Who was catching for them at the time, Todd Hundley? fathom.....?

I've seen nothing from the three that would make me shed a tear if they weren't Sox on Aug 1.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 07:54 PM)
If Mauer becomes a free agent after next year, the White Sox should offer everything including the kitchen sink for him. Let Flowers play first or DH.

And to think the Twins picked him because they didn't want to spend the $$$ that Mark Prior was looking for! Wow, they lucked out on that one...

Well, I wouldn't go that far. We though Allen had value and we dealt him for a RP. We'd probably deal Poreda for a backup middle infielder.
