The Fourth Period states a source says that DT would be willing to move Sharpie and Barker in the right deal for a stay at home defenseman.

Blackhawks trying to trade

TheFourthPeriod.comThe Blackhawks are believed to be in the market for a big, physical defenseman, and could be looking the trade route to get one.

Sources tell TFP the Hawks have been scouring the market for a strong blueliner for some time and are willing to give up a roster player in order to get what they want.

"We're looking for the right guy, maybe on the back end," Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon told the Chicago Daily News. "We have a lot of assets we can trade."

It's uncertain, at this point, who the Hawks might be targeting, but one report suggests Tallon would consider dealing forward Patrick Sharp if the right offer came along.

Young defenseman Cam Barker, a restricted free agent, is also believed to be available for trade.

From the Editor: I'd be a little surprised if the Hawks moved Sharp at this stage of the game. I wouldn't be shocked, though, if Barker ends up being dealt. Chicago really wants a defensive-minded blueliner with an attitude. -- David Pagnotta.

That'd be interesting. I'm not sure I'd want to trade Sharp (probably because I just bought my brother a Sharp jersey for his b-day) and Barker for Regehr, but it'd be something to look into. I'd much rather deal Barker, Versteeg, and a 3rd round pick (or a 2nd) for him, but we'll see. How about- Versteeg, Sharp, and Barker for Chara? *begins to pray heavily*

In Dale I trust.

On Stuy's board they are saying the Hawks are after Robyn Regehr...don't know how they could afford him or who would go for him but I know Calgary is looking for forwards.....speculate away.

Link?

Oh and BTW:

"Therefore, the addition of a player like Marian Hossa, with a GVT of 20, is worth 7 to 8 points in the standings. Assuming nothing else changes (and it obviously will), this would mean that the simple transfer of Hossa to Chicago would bring the Blackhawks from 104 to 112 points in the standings, while the Red Wings would drop from 113 to 105."

The last thing this team needs is another player that carries a 7.5 million dollar cap hit.

Except Chara is actually worth all 7.5 million.

Plus, we'd be trading Sharp, Versteeg, and Barker so we'd probably be helping our cap issues, right?

I don't know if it has been said or not, but I love the Madden signing. This is a guy who lives and breathes playoff hockey. The Hawks biggest fault is not putting up 60 minutes a night, and guys like this ( a 4 time Selke finalist) go a long way towards teaching these kids how to play.

I hate the song, but I'm in the minority. My buddy who works at the UC tells me it's a big hit with the higher-ups and it's not going anywhere.

So I will continue to mute the TV when they score and just suffer through it when I'm at the UC.

Its popular, being old you are morally obligated to hate it now :)

Supposedly, that 3 team deal with us, the Leafs, and the Sharks all hinges on if San Jose signs Gustavsson. If they do, I guess we'd get Nabokov and Huet would go to Toronto. That was a post on the Hawks message board, but it certainly makes sense. Gustavsson is ready to play right away, and Nabokov's contract is up after this year (he'll make 6m this year).

This could be a disaster for the Hawks...

Did Chicago Blackhawks miss deadline for qualifying offers?

Restricted free-agent status in question for Kris Versteeg, others

By Chris Kuc | Tribune reporter

July 5, 2009

The tendering of qualifying offers to restricted NHL free agents is mostly a formality and usually goes off without a hitch.

That's not the case for the Blackhawks this year.

The paperwork for a number of Hawks, including Kris Versteeg, Cam Barker, Ben Eager, Colin Fraser, Aaron Johnson and Troy Brouwer may have been filed incorrectly. As a result the club may have violated the NHL's Collective Bargaining Agreement and the group could be classified as unrestricted free agents.

The Blackhawks had until June 29 to qualify the Hawks' restricted free agents, which would give the team the right to match any offers the players might receive from around the league. The common procedure is to send the offers to the players and their agents via courier and fax and also to fax a copy to the league.

NHL pushing Jerry Reinsdorf as man to solve Phoenix Coyotes' woes

At least one player, Johnson, still had not received his offer Saturday even though general manager Dale Tallon said Wednesday all offers had gone out and that he expected to sign all the team's unrestricted free agents.

"As of today Aaron has never received his qualifying offer and neither has my office," Johnson's agent, Allan Walsh, said Saturday. "I don't recall ever having a situation when a team has issued a qualifying offer and the player and agent haven't received a copy."

The CBA stipulates qualifying offers must be sent via an established overnight delivery service (or certified or registered mail if overnight service is not available) to the players and their agents. A copy also is faxed to the NHL.

"Chicago may have failed to provide a number of its players with a completed copy of the Qualifying Offer notice referenced in Article 10.2 (a) of the CBA (i.e. Exhibit 19)," NHLPA Executive Director Paul Kelly said in an e-mail. "The NHLPA has requested further information from the league and the club regarding this matter."

According to TSN, Tallon said the offers were sent to the players on time and that faxed copies were sent to the league on time.

Tallon wouldn't elaborate Saturday, other than to say: "We followed protocol as we have in the past and we are confident that this will be resolved."

In 2000, the New Jersey Devils said they forgot to send qualifying offers to Brian Rafalski and John Madden (who the Hawks signed as a free agent Wednesday) and and the players were deemed unrestricted free agents.

New Jersey ended up signing both players to contracts for more money than the players likely would have received.

In a similar situation in 2002, the Bears bungled paperwork in tender offers to restricted free agents Warrick Holdman and D'Wayne Bates. The team failed to check boxes guaranteeing it compensation if it elected not to match another team's offer. They wound up matching the Chiefs' four-year, $12 million offer for Holdman but let Bates go to the Vikings.

The NHL still is investigating the matter and it's possible it could take an arbitrator's ruling to settle the matter if the NHLPA files a grievance on behalf of the players.

From what it sounds like, Walsh, who is also the agent for Havlat, has a lot of sour grapes, and has leaked all this info. Josh Mora from CSN contacted Barker and a few others, and all said they got the paper work, and even if there was a mistake, they would be chomping at the bit to come back because of what the team is doing.

Honestly, this agent Walsh looks like a total prick, and he needs to stop twittering, because he looks like a total tool.

That's the real story here, what a tool this guy is. He's about to become what Scott Boras is to the White Sox, I don't think the Hawks will dealing with this guy anytime soon.

TheFourthPeriodand.. Barker signs a 3-year deal with Hawks.. Versteeg's working on his new deal, too

6 minutes ago from web

What trades will Dale make to free up space for this year alone? I wish the made up 3 way deal actually had something to it. Eklund said something would happen today and he hasn't mentioned anything of it.

SPORTSNET.CA: reports Swedish goaltender Jonas ("the Monster") Gustavsson has agreed to sign a one-year, $900K contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

There you have it. Nabokov or bust?
