High Mileage
By far the single best part of the Royals season for me, screw Zack Greinke! Now I can begin to take my front office seriously again! Royals DFA Tony Pena Jr. By Mike Axisa [July 16 at 5:28pm CST] MLB.com's Dick Kaegel reports that the Royals have designated shortstop Tony Pena Jr. for assignment to make room on the roster for the recently acquired Yuniesky Betancourt. Pena has hit just .156-.178-.192 in 288 plate appearances since the start of the 2008 season.
danman31
Heh. He is really awful. I guess the new question is whether or not Betancourt will be more than a slight improvement.
southsider2k5
I don't know why people get so upset about players like this. With 25 man rosters and 30 teams in the league, there are bound to be some bad players in the league, especially in places that don't have much of a payroll. santo=dorf
yet KC added a garbage player and took on a lot of salary (especially for them) with Betancourt. Oh those Royals will never figure it out.
chw42
Didn't Pena have one decent year at the plate?
knightni
That was Esteban German. No wait. Angel Berroa. No...
BearSox
Real good with the glove, not so much with the bat. I wouldn't be oppossed to signing him to a minor league contract.

knightni
QUOTE (High Mileage @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 11:43 PM) 2007. Rookie of the Year. That and $20 will buy a 5th of Jack for Joe Charboneau.
santo=dorf
Didn't Pena have one decent year at the plate? a 66 OPS+ shouldn't be a decent year for anybody, but that was his career year. .267 BA, .284 BA. Man does he f***ing suck.
Metz
So the Royals are now seeing if they can convert Pena to a pitcher since he hits like one. Once he cleared waivers they said he would possibly go to their spring training complex and work on his mechanics.
