Ok, so this has me really excited so I thought I would pass it along...

Magic Kingdom Fantasyland Expansion Plans Leaked

Someone at Disney has leaked what appears to be very real blueprints laying out all the new ‘attractions’ planned for an expanded Fantasyland at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. This plan matches what I’ve heard from other sources. My gut tells me it’s not something fan created and is actually from the halls of WDI in Glendale. Now the question is, has all this been approved for construction? If so we should start seeing bulldozers pushing dirt as soon as October. I won’t believe any of this is true until we do.

So what will the expanded area consist of? It remakes everything from where the current Little Mermaid meet and greet is, moves Dumbo, and goes back to the service road all the way across to the existing Toon Town Fair tents. The only attraction that will remain from the existing Toon Town is Goofy’s Barnstormer. Dumbo will now be located across from the Barnstormer and will be expanded to two spinners doubling the capacity of that popular attraction.

The rest of the expansion is dedicated almost entirely to the Pixie’s and Princesses that has become the marketing and merchandising focus of the Walt Disney Company the last few years. There are three new meet and greets Pixie Hollow is expanded, Cinderella gets a larger meet and greet, Princess Aurora (aka Sleeping Beauty) also gets a spot. I think calling a meet and greet an attraction is a bit of a stretch, but there are ways to expand the experience and elevate it to attraction level. Let’s hope that’s in the budget.

Ariel, the Little Mermaid has a meet and greet too, but she also gets a whole new attraction (essentially a clone of what is now under construction in California). It looks like Belle gets a meet and greet and a new “Be Our Guest” restaurant. At one time there was a Dinner Theatre restaurant by that name planned for Disneyland Paris, I wonder if they’re reviving that concept. That’s certainly something the Magic Kingdom has been lacking and I can see the long lines forming now for reservations.

Looks like the plans may be real:

New construction may add truth to ‘leaked’ Fantasyland refurbishment plans

Some cast members who have backstage access to Fantasyland and Toontown are now reporting that some construction has begun in these areas - and the assumption is that it is part of the major overhaul. We’ve also been told that areas normally open for use by cast members are being blocked off and even some buses are being rerouted. Moreover, there are sources who claim to have spoken to Imagineers who said that these plans are indeed final and in-progress.

Just a pet peave I have when adults get all excited about kids things. I'm a bitter old man.

You obviously haven't been there...if you think it's only for kids.

I, for one, am very excited about the proposed expansion. I am also thrilled to hear that Beastly Kingdom is back in the works for an expansion of Animal Kingdom!

I am also a Disney World freak....we go every year. (DVC Member)

Well, from what I have read... write by those who I trust are "in the know"... it was being brought up again in meetings as recently as last October. Didnt sound like they were in serious planning, just general talks with a few ideas being floated. I would expect a new land at AK fro another 5 years, minimum.

The talk this time was a to find a place for the "Journey to the Center of the Earth" ride from Tokyo DisneySea. A Beastly Kingdom would work for it...not the same scale they imagined in the first place when Animal Kingdom was first designed. Heck...there still is a dragon in the Animal Kindgom logo :)

Rumor is it would be a merging of Beastly Kingdom and Mysterious Island. Also featuring a 20k ride.

So would the Little Mermaid ride be something like the old 20,000 Leagues?

I havent been to Disney World in forever, I went to Land 5 years ago. But when I was young I went to Disney World 6 or 7 years in a row.

Yeah, that would seal the deal for me. Killing off 20,000 Leagues — despite it's many operational issues and substantial down time — killed a lot of what made Fantasyland and magic Kingdom unique. I also have a lot of nostalgic love for Mr. Toad but they did a nice job with the Pooh ride replacement so I can accept that.

As for the current renovation plans. . . I very much dislike the focus entirely on the princesses in the theming, and I agree with that blogger that calling a meet and greet station an attraction is a stretch. On the other hand, most of ToonTown Fair needs to be dozed to build something better. Back when that arae opened it was for Mickey's 60th birthday and it was fine for that. But then they got lazy and added a couple more mermanent elements and turned it into the ToonTown Fair area. My kids grew up loving the Goofy Barnstormer rollercoaster, but it is the single most uncomfortable coaster for adults ever built. The solid molded plastic seats are awful.

Our annual passes blocked out for a couple more weeks, but once we're open again I'll be on the lookout for telltail construction signs. Space Mountain's renovation is finished in a couple of months, so that will be good— they always add nice attraction elements when they redo that one.

be our guest makes me think of:

...some men hunt for sport,

Others hunt for food.

The only thing I'm hunting for

Is an outfit that looks good.

See my vest, see my vest,

Made from real gorilla chest.

Feel this sweater, there's no better

Than authentic Irish Setter.

See this hat, 'twas my cat.

My evening wear, vampire bat.

These white slippers are albino

African endangered rhino.

Grizzly bear underwear,

Turtle necks I've got my share.

Beret of poodle on my noodle it shall rest

Try my red robin suit,

It comes one breast or two...

See my vest, See my vest, See my vest.

Like my loafers, former gophers,

It was that or skin my chauffeurs,

But a greyhound fur tuxedo would be best...

So let's prepare these dogs,

Kill two for matching clogs!

See my vest!

See me vest!

Oh, please, won't you see my veeeeeesst!

(Dialog)

Mr Burns: I really like the vest!

Smithers: I gathered that...

Lisa: (gasps) He's gonna make a tuxedo out of our puppies!

Bart: (hums the tune of the song) Na-na-na, na-na-na, na-na-naaa...

Lisa: Bart!

Bart: Sorry. You gotta admit, it's catchy.
