zenryan
Only 42 days until the first Thursday Night ESPN Game that features South Carolina at NC State. Just started reading my Phil Steele magazine this week and got really pumped when the first set of lines came out from sportsbook.com Clemson @ Georgia Tech -3.5 UCLA @ Tennessee -5.5 South Carolina @ Georgia -11.5 USC -3 @ Ohio State Iowa -10 @ Iowa State Notre Dame -2 @ Michigan Oregon State -8.5 @ UNLV TCU -5.5 @ Virginia Georgia Tech @ Miami -4 Boise State -9.5 @ Fresno State Tennessee @ Florida -24 Georgia -3.5 @ Arkansas Michigan State @ Notre Dame -7 Nebraska @ Virginia Tech -7 Kansas State @ UCLA -6.5 Florida State @ BYU -3 USC -14 @ Washington Ole Miss -4.5 @ South Carolina Missouri @ Nevada -2 Illinois @ Ohio State -9 Iowa @ Penn State -7.5 TCU @ Clemson -3 Colorado @ West Virginia -5 Pittsburgh -2.5 @ Louisville LSU @ Georgia -3.5 Arkansas -8 @ Texas A&M Penn State @ Illinois Pick Michigan @ Michigan State -4 Wisconsin -3 @ Minnesota Oklahoma -10.5 @ Miami USC -5 @ California UNLV @ Nevada -9 Air Force @ Navy -1.5 Nebraska -3 @ Missouri Florida -8.5 @ LSU Georgia -3 @ Tennessee Alabama @ Ole Miss -3.5 Oklahoma State -13 @ Texas A&M Georgia Tech @ Florida State -3.5 Oregon @ UCLA -1 BYU -10 @ UNLV Boise State -5.5 @ Tulsa Cincinnati @ South Florida -9.5 Pittsburgh @ Rutgers -3 Texas -1 @ Oklahoma Texas Tech @ Nebraska -7 Virginia Tech @ Georgia Tech -2 USC -6 @ Notre Dame California -5 @ UCLA Utah -7 @ UNLV Florida State @ North Carolina -2.5 Tennessee @ Alabama -11 Penn State -5 @ Michigan Oklahoma -12 @ Kansas Oklahoma State -8.5 @ Baylor Clemson @ Miami -4.5 Boston College @ Notre Dame -10 Oregon -5 @ Washington TCU @ BYU -3 Boise State -15 @ Hawaii North Carolina @ Virginia Tech -7 West Virginia @ South Florida -6 Florida -13.5 @ Georgia Michigan @ Illinois -7 Texas -3.5 @ Oklahoma State USC -7 @ Oregon Virginia Tech -6 @ East Carolina Ohio State @ Penn State -3 Illinois -6 @ Minnesota Oklahoma -9 @ Nebraska Kansas -2.5 @ Kansas State Florida State @ Clemson -3 USC -13.5 @ @ Arizona State LSU @ Alabama -3.5 South Florida @ Rutgers -3 West Virginia @ Cincinnati -2 Florida -16 @ South Carolina Tennessee @ Ole Miss -12 Iowa @ Ohio State -8 Michigan @ Wisconsin -3.5 Texas -14 @ Baylor Nebraska @ Kansas -1 Miami @ North Carolina -2.5 Notre Dame -1 @ Pittsburgh Colorado @ Oklahoma State -17 LSU @ Ole Miss -3.5 Penn State -3 @ Michigan State Ohio State -6 @ Michigan Oklahoma -11 @ Texas Tech California -7 @ Stanford Texas -18.5 @ Texas A&M Alabama -5 @ Auburn Illinois -3 @ Cincinnati Nebraska -3 @ Colorado Pittsburgh @ West Virginia -2 Nevada @ Boise State -18 Florida State @ Florida -22 Georgia -1 @ Georgia Tech Clemson @ South Carolina -1 Ole Miss -17.5 @ Mississippi State Arkansas @ LSU -10.5 Oklahoma State @ Oklahoma -11.5 Texas Tech -4 @ Baylor Kansas -5 @ Missouri North Carolina @ NC State -2 Virginia Tech -8 @ Virginia UCLA @ USC -19.5 Arizona @ Arizona State -2 Notre Dame -5.5 @ Stanford Washington State @ Washington -14 Utah @ BYU -7 Oregon State @ Oregon -5.5 Wisconsin -11 @ Hawaii California -8 @ Washington West Virginia @ Rutgers -5 Cincinnati @ Pittsburgh -7 South Florida -6.5 @ UConn Navy -12.5 @ Army

Palehosefan
Oklahoma -11 @ Texas Tech Might have to actually take up betting for that one. OU has lost their last two trips to Lubbock and needs some serious payback for the year changing raping last year in Norman. Oh well, UNC and TTU should be in some of the pre-season top 25 polls, should be another fun year.
zenryan
Suprised to see USC only favored by 14 at Washington. Hopefully the Butch Davis curse ends this year! The ACC Coastal should be a lot of fun this year between UNC,VT,GT and Miami. Not really sold on the Atlantic division though.
Palehosefan
Just noticed even easier money, Texas -18.5 @ Texas A&M A&M always plays UT close or beats them. Getting over 18 points and @ A&M is ridiculous.

dasox24
The Florida-UT game scares the s*** out of me. Definitely NOT taking the trip to Gainesville in September. But, I can't wait for football to start. I'm more excited about UT football than I've been in a long time, but there will definitely be some growing pains with a young team/new coaching staff... I'll be making road trips to Tuscaloosa and Oxford too when UT plays there, so it should be a fun Fall.

danman31
The lines are overrating Illinois by quite a bit. Pick em vs Penn State? Just because you returned crap doesn't make it good a year later.

Maybe overrated, but you make it sound like they're gonna have a losing record again, which will 100% not happen.

Just because you returned crap doesn't make it good a year later. They have (on paper) the most explosive passing attack in the conference. The running game figures to be better (I think Justin Green will be a big factor this year). The defense is another story. Most importantly, the Big 10 f***ing sucks this year. You are right, a middle of the road team could steal the Big Ten title from the power teams in the conference if all the cards fall their way. Its just not likely. As I stated in the recruiting thread, I think it's dumb for the offensive coordinator to come out and say he wants to run the ball more with Juice and make sure he stays under 25 throws a game. When you have that good of receivers, you must throw the ball a bit more. Their offense is simply too good. At the very least, don't tell everyone your game plan. Martez is going to be on the inside this year at LB. The Illini could definitely win it this year. They won't be anywhere as bad as last year. And the talent they returned from last year is far from crap for the most part. Plus, they did get some decent players in for this year. I think the Illini finish with a top 2 record. They definitely won't have as bad of a record as last year.

Do you think what Illinois has coming back is better than the rest of the teams in the Big Ten? Do you think they brought in better recruits and new players than the rest of the teams? nitetrain8601
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 07:14 PM) Let me ask you this based on your assessment of your team. Do you think what Illinois has coming back is better than the rest of the teams in the Big Ten? Do you think they brought in better recruits and new players than the rest of the teams? They're coming back with talented individuals, more depth wise than almost any team in the Big Eleven. Sure, OSU has Pryor, but in terms of returning talent, they've lost some skilled position players. They also brought in some nice recruits. Is their recruiting class better than everyone's in the Big Ten? No. But the Illini have the combination of veterans at skilled positions who know the playbooks and young talented freshmen and sophmores coming in and in the case of Mr. Fayson, stud junior. You don't have to have better recruits than anyone else to be in contention. You just have to steal a couple of recruits here and there, work them in, and have recruits who can compete with the other recruits. Obviously by that, I don't mean a 2 star recruit will make it close with a bunch of 5 star recruits.
