Its a damn shame that Iowa has the schedule they have, else they could really make a run this year. That is a helluva talented team setup with the wrong road games this year.

I'm looking forward to my boys starting the season off in Raleigh!

I gotta say I'm absolutely stunned at the confidence from the Illinois people. A team that was atrocious last year and they are expecting a bunch of newbies to be stars.

I wouldn't really say they are returning "crap." Kind of an ignorant comment.

The offense doesn't have newbies, minus a few lineman. Best receiving core in the big ten, QB who led the big ten in total offense, and every rushing yard returns.

Defense has more question marks, especially at line and lb. Secondary will likely be the strength of the defense as there is more experience there.

There could be a lot of shootouts this year.

I don't see many reasons why we shouldn't be confident that this team should be pretty decent this year and not atrocius, but if you want to call everyone a homer, so be it. I am not guaranteeing a BTT, that's silly to predict, but I don't see how this team finishes in the bottom to middle of the Big Ten. Maybe the Big Ten is down but I think they finish towards the top somewhere.

Ok so either they have newbies or guys that were crap last year. They won 5 games last year. Not sure why the excitement other than expectations from good recruiting classes. I didn't say they would be atrocious this year, but they were last year. 3-5 in a mediocre Big Ten and a loss to Western Michigan was bad.

Better is assumed, but what does 'towards the top somewhere' mean? Top 4 in the Big Ten? Far from unthinkable, but shouldn't be an expectation.

All newbies or crap, got it.

With the talent this team has, and looking at the rest of the conference, a top 4 finish should be expected. They should be 5-3 or 6-2. The schedule starts out really tough (though far from guaranteed losses) but there should be a ton of wins after that. If they can't pull that off there will be a ton of heat on Zook.

Illinois is going to have to be A LOT better than they were last year. I watched them lose to Northwestern by 17 in their last game of the year even with Tyrell Sutton out, that should not happen to a "talented team".

Williams will have to get a lot better as a passer, he made way too many turnovers last year. The defense will also have to get better, the only teams they held under 20 last year were Louisiana-Lafayette and Indiana. It also doesn't help that Ron Zook is the coach, who has developed a history of underachieving.

It wasn't Zook's idea. Northwestern has been throwing this idea out there for a while. Zook just wants Illinois to be the other team. Both sides talked about it during Big Ten media day.

They would be replacing the game in Evanston and Ryan Field only holds 47k. Seating isn't a major problem.

The stadium is too small seating-wise.

They might be losing out on some fans but they can just raise the ticket prices to offset it.

Just over 38 days 'til kickoff...

Also, after watching old game film, Monte Kiffin told Lane last week that he doesn't see how there's any way Berry shouldn't be the #1 pick in the Draft next year. He's that good. Now, I know he might be a little biased, but it's not like he's a long-time Tennessee guy, so he didn't have to say that. Monte knows the NFL, and while he might be exaggerating a bit (b/c DB's never go #1 overall), he should be a Top 5 pick. I know many of you who don't follow the SEC don't know much about him (thanks to UT sucking last year), but go watch his highlights on Youtube and you'll be impressed. Hell, look at what he did to Knowshon Moreno in my signature picture. And that's just another play in the game for Berry. Taylor Who?

This is what I dont get, how did ILL get better? How did they get a talent infusion? Did they return more talent than other teams in the conference? They certainly didnt have the best recruiting class.

I'd say there are only 4 games that Illinois "should" lose.

Penn State, Cincy, tOSU, Mizzou

We will probably beat Mizzou, could very well beat PSU as it is a home game, Cincy isn't a great team but the Illini play at there place so u never know and I hate to say it but I can pretty much say it will be a loss.

Tyler Moeller, starting LB for OSU, was assaulted in a bar in Florida while with his family and will be out for the year because of serious head injuries.

Damn, never good to hear anything like that, especially "head" injuries. Hope he can make a full recovery.

Damn, that sucks. Kinda scary to read that he was with his family when this took place.

Maybe I should have went to college in the south of something, because every August I get incredibly excited about the upcoming start of the college football season, and this year is no exception. Went to the NIU scrimmage Saturday just as a small whetting of the appetite, can't wait for the real games to start nationwide.
