Heads22
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) These teams are both pretty mediocre. Iowa's the worst offense GT has faced in 3 months, and GT's players seem to be on drugs tonight. Tons of dumb decisions/penalties. The Orange Bowl has to be pissed about the teams they get. The game against Indiana, for example. That game was ugly, but the winds were unbelievable that day. Maybe he shouldn't have been so reckless, but whatever. The IU QB also threw a season-high INTs

Iowa's the worst offense GT has faced in 3 months, and GT's players seem to be on drugs tonight. Tons of dumb decisions/penalties. Bulls***, it was the same story of a "prolific offense" that hadn't seen a defense like the top few in the Big Ten. You give Kirk Ferentz 30 days to prepare for a team that relies on deception and overpursuit, and you are toast. Especially when you have a few guys that will play on sunday. They held the #2 Rushing offense in the country to half their production, and their lowest point total all season. Nice job Hawks.

GT, IMO, was the better team in the 2nd half (after getting dominated in the 1st half) but 3-4 stupid decisions by GT cost them the chance to win. If these teams play 10 times, Iowa probably wins 7. I said all along it was a bad match-up for GT with Iowa's offensive/defensive lines.

Chisoxfn
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 01:59 PM) It's weird, I'd say that ISU and Iowa have very similar offensive talent (certainly not on D). Laughable. Moakei, Davis, McNutt, two above average freshmen running backs. Laughable. Oh and one of the best olines in the league.

Did Iowa move the ball at all in the 2nd half besides up until GT had 10 in the box with 3 minutes left? I thought after the first 2 possessions, Iowa's offense was awful tonight. However, their defense was sensational, and they didn't need more points. Edited January 6, 2010 by fathom

Dwyer, one of the better running backs in the NCAA over the last three years, had the final run of his career be his most memorable....a nice 10 yard run backwards for a near safety. Oh and one of the best olines in the league. Iowa has the better OL, WR and TE. ISU has the better RB and QB, I honestly believe. Stanzi is a better game manager, Arnaud has more talent. Iowa has the better RB corps, but ISU has the better #1 RB when healthy. Unfortunately, our QB broke his hand (and played the worst game of his career against Iowa) and the RB pulled his groin (but still ran for 152 against Kansas, and averaged over 5 ypc and ended with 100 against Iowa). That being said, both offenses are not anything special. Iowa's TE and WR are just appreciably better. That being said, your backfield is still loaded next year. Just need to find a QB. RockRaines
Wow, not sure its a good idea, but Cam "ironhead jr" Heyward is staying another year. And I found this on another board: First downs and total yardage of the 4 unstoppable, amazing offenses faced by the Big Ten's 4 bowl winners: 9-155 14-249 9-243 12-260 Edited January 6, 2010 by RockRaines

So since you are talking injuries, your RB is better than Jewel. We have a supreme team where it matters most. Don't even compare the two. Iowa is a legitimate top 10 team, Iowa State isn't a top 30 team. Not saying Iowa State didn't have a quality season, they did, but the two teams are on entirely different levels.
