BA wants to be traded

You're kidding right? There's already several comments on here clearly stating or directly implying that Ozzie screwed him up.

I'm done with it FOREVER. Just trade him and make it go away.

True or false (the fact that he currently sucks notwithstanding, and this question is to be read at face value):

During the course of his development and with the benefit of hindsight, there are points where the Sox, specifically Ozzie, should have done things differently.

Also true or false:

Soxtalk posters almost unanimously agree that Anderson isn't the answer at CF anymore.

Would you say this year that in situations (especially recently, which sadly is what counts on this earth...what-have-you-done-for-me-lately)......... Wise has delivered in recent weeks, whereas BA in his last consistent stretch of getting on the field was mired in a slump?

"delivered" meaning at least a little. which is the most we can hope from these guys with the bat.

The thing is i think you throw batting out because these guys arent going to play much. It's defense vs. PR for the most part.

I figured maybe I was missing something so I looked at the stats but Wise hit .190 in June and .207 in July...?

If we qualify it this way, then Borchard was robbed.

Mike Caruso may have been robbed.

When do you quit on a guy? never? They pay these guys tons, and the org has to move on to the next good idea before the team suffers too much

Which is the debate. Anderson is superior in defense and good enough on the base paths. Wise isn't Ricky Henderson, he's not a guaranteed steal or score from 2nd any more than Anderson is.

And a PR is more important than good Defense? Ask Upton how that bad defensive play worked out last night.

I personally think pegging Wise as a bad defensive player is a creation of these boards.

In close games, PR matters more than the difference in defense between Wise and BA. That skill is more likely to lead to a win.

If Wise was a bad CF, I would agree with you guys. I dont think he is, however. We always hear about how bad he is there but the evidence lacks.

Our bench does not have fast IFs. We need the PR skills.

I totally disagree with this. I'll take a very good defensive replacement over a PR. And Wise is a poor CF, stats be damned. BA can read the ball off the bat and get to more fly balls than Wise ever dreamed of getting to.

Quitting on a guy? I'm not talking about that at all and I watered that question down too far for the sake of mass consumption. I'm talking about things like starting old and s***ty players over him after he wins the job over said old and s***ty player in ST. There wasn't really much doubt going into this year that he was close to out of chances with this organization.

Well the old guys they started had higher career #s than Anderson ever ended up producing.

So it's like, if we throw out what we know now, Anderson could have developed if played more. But he has played in these last few years a good amount--and never developed, so how do we go back and fault them for win-now moves that put older guys in the lineup?

When you're recently coming off a championship that was built largely from unexpected spare parts, then the temptation is there to go with another reclamation project over a youthful project (that already failed in 06)

I guess there's that camp that thinks BA would be a completely different player if he had nonstop at-bats after 06. I am not in it.

same old s*** in here as usual.

One thing though: BA is one of the worst baserunners on the team. He cant steal a base and has frequent brain farts. I like BA as much as the next guy, but its time to realize that his swing does not translate to the majors. He is a plus plus defensive CF'er and MAY be able to play in the NL every day, but on a contender, he is a 4th of'er.

Yes, agreed. But on a contender, his defense is way more valuable than anything Wise brings .... especially to this particular team.

Right now would be a great time for BA in CF.

yasny, it has to be the pr thing. I, myself would like to think that I would like to think it is a personal thing. However; I think that the Nats would exchange Willie Harris for BA. Willie can play centerfield, hits lefty and can run. Still can't hit but with a change of scenery I see no reason why he couldn't raise his average from .235 to say .285 under the tutelage of Greg Walker.

f*** it I'll go ahead and open the can of worms since I don't have anything else better to do and we were just on the subject of dicking around or questionable decisions... anyone remember the last time a Sox pitcher took a no-hitter into the 9th? Who was on the bench? How'd that turn out?

In a perfect game going into the 9th today Pods plays the first 8 innings and Wise plays the last one. Wise > Pods in the field, result, perfect game. Just... you know... saying.

BA actually does one thing well this year...time his "trade demand" to get completely buried by Buehrle and Wise, who is once-again the feel good story of redemption with Anderson completely forgotten about (except fan boys who claim he also would have made the same play but is now forever denied a place in our hearts as Sox fans due to Ozzie's vendetta against him).

I'm surprised it took this long. He's not a good player, but he's gotten a bit of a raw deal.

As far as Wise goes, that catch he made today will give him about another week or so in the clear, just because of the significance of it, but come August, no more free passes either (and I'm still pissed at him and Fields complaining about getting boo'ed).

Im so sick of the line of argument that Anderson got a raw deal.

He was the White Sox first pick, 15th over all. The White Sox gave him every chance to be the starter, most likely dealing Rowand because they thought that they had Anderson ready to take over.

In 2006 he was the opening day starter, he played 134 games and had 405 PA and hit .225 for a team that won 90+ games.

The White Sox cleared the way for him to be the starter, he cant blame anyone but himself. The Sox have been looking for a starting CF since the Rowand trade, if BA had anything to offer on a consistent basis he would have easily won the job.

There is no BA conspiracy, he is a KW pick, he just has so far not performed like many other Sox draft picks.

His dude has had 4 years to get his s*** together and he hasn't done a thing at the plate to deserve a starting job.

It's time we let him go and flop somewhere else...he's a defensive specialist and nothing else.

Good-bye BA=1st round bust.

We went to see the Charlotte Knights play Rochester on Saturday night. Brian Anderson was in CF for the Knights. He went 1 for 5 and for the most part looked not so good at the plate. I don't have the ability to make a scout quality assessment like Jason and some other posters here, but his swing has so many weaknesses. He was retired three times on off speed pitches low and away, twice stiking out and looking bad. In the bottom of the ninth he came up with the bases loaded and one out and grounded weakly to third forcing the winning run at home. He did have an RBI double, a screamer in the left center field gap, and did make a fine running catch in CF, but alas it looks like it will never click for him at the plate.
