Vegetables don't have a central nervous system.

So?

Whatever ethical judgments you pass on people who eat regular diets, fruitarians pass the same on you. However ridiculous you think they might be, we (or at least I) think the same of your arguments.

I'm not sure what else I can say but since when do people not understand the difference in purposefully taking a sentient beings life in comparison to a piece of farm equipment accidentally running over a rabbit? Are you people seriously not seeing the difference or are you just messing with me?

After reading some of these posts I'm expecting to see a 50% ratio of chopped rabbit and squirrel in the next bag of carrots I buy.

Like I said. I choose not to purposefully kill sentient beings.

Wow. Keep convincing your self that you have a great argument. Also since I'm sure you're anti-murder for humans I expect you to sell your car and walk everywhere for the rest of your life since cars and other vehicles accidentally kill people.

Sqwert, I do not need to convince myself of anything; I know my arguments are sound. As far as your 'car' anology, if I knew for a fact that I was goign to kill people everytime I went for a drive I would never drive again.

I look forward to some more ingenious arguments from you. Perhaps you'll tell me that eating vegetables equals murder too.

:lolhitting

I already told you eating vegetables was murder, according to your definition. You are getting rattled.

BigSqwert while we're on this subject you'll probably be happy to know we didn't kill that mouse that was in our office a couple of weeks ago, we trapped it in a coffee can and took it outside.

Animals are killed to provide your food source. they may not be intentionally harvested, but there is zero doubt that they will be killed in the agricultural process.

Apparently you don't want me to "Deal with it" anymore.

As much fun as it is watching you guys fight the only way to truly have zero negative impact on the planet is to kill yourself and then have yourself cremated and use the ashes to fertilize a garden. The best you can do is try to lower your impact.

yeah, that was a lame thing to say. "Accept the reality that your food source results in the death of sentient animals, even if they are not the intended target" is much better.

Sqwert, you've never actually covered the actual topic of hunting, only the killing of animals. To be frank, and hoping to avoid being too graphic while still getting the point across, a bullet to the brain or heart of a full grown deer will stop them almost immediately on spot; there is no pain nor suffering. That may be in-humane, as you say, but it's still a very necessary part of human development, right?

I do accept that. My point is that I make the absolute best effort to avoid all animal products in everything I consume. There are going to be instances where an animal somehow accidentally was hurt or killed in the process of production for something I purchase. For someone to equate what I am doing with a typical omnivore is ridiculous and deep down inside you know I am right. The 2 approaches are completely different.

And FYI I have been vegan for 3 years now. My life has been very difficult in many ways because of this. I am completely marginalized and even ostracized by some. It's really interesting to see how people immediately get defensive when I tell them about my lifestyle. They feel like they need to diminish what I'm doing or make me feel ridiculous for doing so. I don't walk around preaching to people and telling them how they need to run their lives yet they have no problem to tell me how wrong I am and tell me what I should and shouldn't eat. I don't know if there's some sort of guilt deep inside or they feel threatened or what but it can get quite disheartening living in an omni world.

People are weird. I have several friends that are vegetarians and one or two are vegans. I've got nothing against that choice, I just don't agree over the ethical/ moral arguments of killing an animal.

Fair enough. I just hate hearing s*** like "you probably stepped on an ant today so there really isn't a difference between me and you".

There is nothing more satisfying to me than sitting out in horribly cold weather for 10 hours, shooting a deer, dropping it, processing it yourself, and then making some venison sausage or venison gulash out of it.

I don't understand this thread at all. If you kill something and eat it, I have no problem with it whatsoever. I wonder if bears feel remorse when they tear up and eat a living salmon. Or if lions feel bad when they're hanging off some animal and eating it alive.

To me, if you're killing an animal and putting it to good use, it's perfectly ok. But I certainly don't advocate killing a deer, or mortally wounding it, and just leaving it there.

I agree with what Strange said. If that's a choice you make, there's nothing wrong with it. I may not live that way, and I wouldn't expect you to criticize me for eating meat if I choose to do so.

Well that is an excellent approach and i commend it. unfortunately you didn't have any problems swooping into this thread and repeatedly telling posters that their views were "the dumbest thing you have ever heard".

That specific argument was and you're kidding yourself if you don't agree.

actually it's not. your values are contradictory; judging from your posts here, and your constant use of insults to 'prove' a point, you deserve the ridicule directed towards you.

This is pointless. For a while there I actually thought you had some semblance of intelligence but you've completely disproved that today.
