TheBigHurt
Wow. The spectacle that was Brian Anderson is over? I wish him the best of luck ans hope he's given the opportunity to try and redeem himself.
rangercal
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:17 PM) I hope that BA survives enough in baseball to prove Ozzie wrong about him. I also hope the he grows up enough to keep his teammates from wanting to kick his ass. That would mean raising his lifetime Batting Average 70-80 points Edited July 28, 2009 by rangercal
AWhiteSoxinNJ
Sweet, we are getting cash from the Red Sox too. Epic win!
winninguglyin83
Kotsay about five years past his prime. this is about as meaningful as trading for Griffey last season. Surely Kenny Kool can pick up a better piece than this.

WCSox
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 12:24 PM) Fields has plenty of options left According to Kalapse's chart, he only has one left. And I hope that Kenny doesn't choose to use it now.

Milkman delivers
Kotsay isn't an OF anymore? Man, the last I remember of him was that he was a great CF. When I first heard this, I thought it was an incredible trade, but not so much if he can't even play the OF. I'm sort of sad that Anderson has to go to the Red Sox, as I now have to hate him. If there's a team out there that can tap into any offensive potential, it's the Red Sox or Rangers. That makes me happy for him.
ILMOU
QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 01:19 PM) If Fields is the next one to guy (which might be the case now) that means we would've unloaded 3 of our draft pick busts in a span of 2 months. I'll drive McCulloch to the airport personally.
Jimmywins1
Fields must have some trade value left, Kotsay was probably picked up so we can deal Josh and still have a backup 1B.

BigEdWalsh
From the AAP for BA: Rated the best Prospect in the Sox Farm System by Baseball America in 2005. Good luck Brian. Red Sox?...patooie!!
Dam8610
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) I'll always remember him for 3 things: His celebration of Pods' walk-off in Game 2 of the WS. His dominance of Felix Hernandez in Seattle. His catch in 163. Don't forget sending a Cub to the hospital in that brawl.

3 BeWareTheNewSox 5
What a terrible deal. Completely a deal for the sake of making a deal and getting Anderson the hell out of the organization

kwolf68
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) Kotsay is 33? How is this a youth movement deal? LOL...I need to do the colors for sarcasm. I am disapointed. I know Anderson isn't the next great one like some thought, but it seems we could have gotten something better than a guy recently DFAd, who is hobbled, aging, and pure bench fodder at best. Our team gets older but not better.

NorthSideSox72
Heh - I had pushed the idea of getting Kotsay on here both last offseason and the one before, as a backup OF. Now its come true. Best of luck Brian - you kinda got screwed here, but you also failed to capitalize when you had the chance, so I hope you get it figured out elsewhere. Kotsay is a good add - decent lefty bat who hits righties well, can play OF and 1B. Still gets playing time in all OF positions and 1B, he's declined, but he's still probably an improvement defensively on any of our starters. Nothing earth-shattering, but a good move for all involved I think. Sort of sucks if this means the end of Fields, who I still think has serious potential with the bat, but he'll probably be traded soon anyway. If it means Wise, I feel a little badly, but still think that Kotsay is a big improvement in value over Wise.

jasonxctf
With a current OF depth chart of - Jason Bay - JD Drew - Jacoby Ellsbury - Rocco Baldelli I'm sure that BA will get the playing time, he thinks he deserves.
Milkman delivers
The more I think about it, the less I want Kotsay on the major league team. If he's up here, and he's deteriorated as badly as people say in the outfield, then Ozzie will surely play him out there way too much. I'd rather just not give him the option.
