Holy s***, let's not get carried away here. lol.

Personally, I love the way he defines a "Mauer" type player. I envision John Danks posting a sub 3.40 ERA with 12+ wins, a left handed Tim Lincecum if you will.

I don't think that's getting carried away at all. He'll hit for average and power , no doubt about it.

If Beckham ends up as our #3 hitter, that means that either he's going put up a .900 OPS or the rest of our offense is lacking in power.

Sure, but Mauer? Derek Jeter is a better comparison.

Yeah, kind of what I was thinking. That's an awfully liberal definition, not to mention Mauer is maybe the best pure left-handed hitter in the game.

I just glossed over the Mauer part since his overall point was he'd make a good 3 hitter.

I'd just rather not pigeon-hole Beckham. I can see him succeeding anywhere that you might need him in the lineup. He's that good.

I'd prefer he is lower than 4th in the order because he is such a good run producer and his contact rate is very high.

RISP .410 .457 1.021

RISP 2 outs .556 .652 1.208

Runners on .362 .410 .903

I think he needs to have people on in front of him which is why I dont like him in the 2-hole.

Let's not "crown his ass" as the next Frank Thomas just yet.

He won't be the next Frank Thomas but he is the best hitting prospect we have had come up since Frank so there is reason to be excited.

I been watching players in MLB for 40 years. The things he does aren't just coincidence . His abilty to go with the pitch, yet turn on a pitch when needed or just hit one up the middle are phenomenal. He does whatever the situation calls for . He's made quick adjustments at every level .He's a team first kind of guy and those types don't come along very often . If that's "crowning his ass" so be it.

I'm sure that Rays fans were saying the same thing about Longoria last year. But that doesn't mean that he's going to be the next Ted Williams.

I project that Beckham will be a lot more like Chase Utley, with maybe a little less power. That's really freaking good, but let's not get carried away here.

You mentioned Frank Thomas twasnt I. I'll accept freaking good. I think he projects in his career years as 30-35 HR's.
