Rank The Cell

Espn Page 2 http://msn.espn.go.com/page2/s/ballparks/jacobs.html is running a series on ranking all the parks in MLB (sweet job  ), and the Cell is coming up soon. Out of 100 points so far Pac Bell has the highest score 93, and the lowest score so far is far the Expos 49. Below is the ranking criteria, and I'm hoping we get a fair grade so people will stop bashing the Cell. I'm thinking somewhere around 75 would be about right, and that would hopefully move the park up a little in public opinion. The improvements have obviously made a difference but there still are a lot of problems (upper deck being the worst). How would you rank the Cell out of a scale of 100?

Local scene: 5

Just curious, why a 5 for the "local scene"?

As far as bars/restaurants/nightlife is concerned, I've never seen much of a "local scene" around USCell.

I would call downtown part of the local scene. It is only a mile or two away. If they are only refering to the immediate area, then definately a 1.

The nightlife rates as what is available to do in the immediate vicinity of the park.. meaning we're pretty well screwed on that on. That's probably the biggest thing they'll bash. Hopefully they'll include the loop but it is a stretch. The wild card is just bonus points for miscellaneous things up to 10.

I was underwhelmed by Turner Field. You know that field on the north side is going to get high ratings. I'm interested in seeing how they rate PNC and Camden Yards.

I dunno, in a lot of areas on that list I would rank Wrigley pretty low, although overall I think its a nice park to see a game, mainly because you sit so close to the field.

Well as long as your not stuck behind a poll.

Or too far back on the terracel level, where you can't see a baseball that goes higher than 20 feet in the air

I'd like to see how they rank the Wrigley scoreboard. Really it could be anywhere from 1 to 5

On one hand, it's old and classic. It's hand operated. That's oldtime baseball, it's pretty cool.

On the other hand, it provides almost no info on that day's game besides maybe an average or when a guy last had 3 hits in a game. The lack of stats on players is irritating, but that's how it is with an old scoreboard.

Seat comfort: 3.5--They're OK, does any stadium seating get a 4 or 5?

Hot dogs: 4.5--Really good, especially if you get them from a stand, and not a vendor.

Concessions: 3.5--Decent variety, decent tasting stuff

Signature food: 4.0--Gotta be the churros, doesn't it?

Beer: 3.5--Prices seem to be better than most parks, not enough choices

Bathrooms: 4.0--They're relatively clean and don't smell terrible.

Scoreboard: 3.0--Only because of the fireworks. Stupid between innings skits/races, o.o.t. scores are slow at best, in-game stats often wrong.

P.A. system: 4.0--Sounds good whenever I'm there

Fun stuff: 4.0--Lots of stuff to do before and after games

Souvenirs: 3.0--Average souvenir assortment

Tickets: 4.5--Easy to get, prices are good.

Exterior: 2.0--Blah

Interior: 2.5--Again, Blah, but getting better

Access: 3.5--El accessible, plus plenty of parking except during Cubs games. Traffic into and out of area is very congested.

Ushers: 3.0--Nothing special here

Trading up: 3.0--Used to be alot higher, obviously

Fan knowledge: 5.0--We maybe be smaller in number, but we make up for it with solid baseball knowledge. Quality over Quantity.

7th inning stretch: 2.0--Anti-climactic

Local scene: 1.0--Area is NOT friendly to outsiders, few spots within eyeshot of park. Heading east on 35th is not advised

Wild card: 3.0--Originators of exploding scoreboard, good fans.

Total(I think): 66.5

LOL... that's called the OH s*** drive. Yeah it's a good thing we faced the stadium in that direction so we can all look at the beautiful project skyline. Why the hell they did this is beyond me.

I believe the stadium is configured that way to keep the sun out of the batters' eyes as often as possible.

I think most stadiums are configured to face east, yes?

i like the place alot.... i just miss the arches in the old palace.

and the concourse we have now is way better.... but i kind of miss the anticipation of walking up the ramp at the old park and seeing all the green grass

from the dirty grey concourse to your first view of the field... it was an awesome contrast :)
