jphat007
Ah well. Mark has these from time to time. 90%+ of the time he is awesome, but when he's bad, he's real bad.
Wise Master Buehrle
aq little too late to change pitchers, IMO the sox catch a break that it's not 8-4 on that at bat. lets do this, pena!
Princess Dye
Mark gets some retroactive applause In a month: Do we have two 1s and 3 2s, 1 1 and 4 2s? Or 5 2s?
TitoMB345
Buehrle had nothing today, but its good that we aren't that far out of it. I expect to get Mark a ND at the least.
Dick Allen
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 02:28 PM) Yea but in the grind of 162 games, hitters dont get a chance to review each specific guy thoroughly. The atypical amount of attention Mark got in the nat'l press probably highlighted some of the things he does, as a bit of a refresher. And if anything it aids all those younger Yanks that have NOT been in the league since 01. Most of the Yankee hitters have faced Buerhle many times. They know what he's trying to do. He just didn't have it today. If he's off just slightly he usually gets lit up. He also has 3 or 4 of these types of games every year which inflates his ERA just enough to keep him from being considered elite nationally. I remember BA getting in trouble for not doing that in '06.
TitoMB345
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) Mark gets some retroactive applause In a month: Do we have two 1s and 3 2s, 1 1 and 4 2s? Or 5 2s? To me, all of those are perfectly acceptable. But my vote goes for 1 Ace, 3 2's, and a 4 Peavy's the ACE, Danks, Floyd, and Buehrle are the 2's, and Contreras is a 4. But we will see. From what I read, each hitter is able to access a computer program that can break down pretty much any situation and what a pitcher is likely to throw in any count, and pitchers have a similar program to let them know what to expect certain hitters to do in certain counts. With the statistical analysis overload that is the internets, these hitters have MORE than enough chance to review each guy specifically.

They have the chance, but I would just wonder how often said procedure is skipped out on. Guy by guy leaguewide, I'm sure there is a big range of how much each hitter prepares for their day. Princess Dye
Becks looking good on outs It's crazy how even if he tends to have unimpressive but decent relief appearances like this one, Peña still impacts the franchise probably more than a 1B/LF Jose Guillen-type minor leaguer mightve. Not that we know for sure yet. Edited August 2, 2009 by Princess Dye
