Shark Week!

I dont know how many of you enjoy this, but I have been watching Shark week since I was a kid, and it has never ceased to impress me. I was watching Air Jaws 2 last night, and watching 1+ ton sharks come flying out of the water chasing seals and fake seals was just incredible, especially the underwater cameras showing the actual thought process that some of the sharks take when considering prey. Anyone that thinks that a shark is a big dumb killing machine should sit down and watch some of these shows.

Robert: (turns off TV)

Brennan: What the f***?!

Dale: Dad! It's Shark Week!

Thanks for the visual. For some reason I'm picturing a bunch of guys wearing cardigan sweaters, enjoying oolong tea.

I was watching the show with the shark that jumps out of the water down by Africa.

If I'm ever in that area fishing and I see that, I might just s*** myself and start crying because I would be scared out of my mind.

It is pretty amazing, those animals are going pretty fast. I really love the trailer camera showing the attack from underneath

My 7 year old loves Shark Week already. Tuesday morning she woke me up asking, "What channel is the shark channel?" And then last night she was pissed, saying, "I want to see the ones where they bite people." She saw Jaws when she was about 4 (Only the end part, after the normal people get attacked) and now every time a movie with ocean scenes come on she says, "Ooo, is this Jaws?"

I freak myself out when paddling out all time, Jaws has permanently petrified me of sharks. However, I was able to swim with a white tip reef shark last winter while spearfishing, was one of the biggest thrills. Kind of a get me over the fear swim, didnt work. Still I would love to get in a cage in S. Africa with some great whites. I hear there is one here, great whites are just fairly rare here with the warm waters. Tigers are in abundance, my personal most feared shark.

Shark Week has taught me that spear fishermen are more vulnerable to shark attacks than any other.

That is not true if you are considering all bites worldwide and not just major attack encounters. There were just under 200 total confirmed unprovoked attacks on divers (whether spearfishing or not) during the last century. In contrast, there were nearly 450 attacks on surfers and over 700 on shallow shoreline bathers.
