Princess Dye
Obviously he doesnt get us anything great... and I realize his contract his huge But seeing as how the ERA is good....and yeah, some of the other numbers not so good..... But if Peña can net a Brandon Allen, couldnt someone exchange us another overpaid type?.... perhaps slightly less bloated contract. Granted he's been babied like crazy with when we're putting him in, but other teams dont necessarily have to realize that.... or let themselves realize it if they're begging for relief depth. What do you guys think he's worth if he remains a 2.61 ERA, 1.53 WHIP type guy? Edited August 7, 2009 by Princess Dye

Buehrle>Wood
You make too many threads. The answer is no, we couldn't. Edited August 7, 2009 by Buehrle>Wood
Princess Dye
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 08:28 PM) reverse that dont get me wrong, i'm in favor of the trade too, but if you take money completely out of it, Peña was having a worse year than Linebrink. So it's enough to make me ponder the possibilities

He's referring to the deal from Arizona's perspective. So it's true, Tony Pena did net the Diamondbacks Brandon Allen.
caulfield12
Linebrink isn't going anywhere with Dotel exiting the team... Who knows, they might have to try Pena as a starter again if they don't have any money left to spend on the 5th starter, Hudson/Torres are deemed NOT ready and they decide to leave Carrasco in the long relief role. Or we could try Yadel Marti to replace Jose.
Kenny Hates Prospects
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 09:57 PM) Linebrink isn't going anywhere with Dotel exiting the team... Or we could try Yadel Marti to replace Jose. I'll eat my dog if they try to make Pena a starter. Hudson not being ready might force them to make a move, but Torres probably isn't a factor regardless. He'll probably be minor league depth with a chance to fill a bullpen or 6th starter role, but the team will probably be filled out without him in the picture. Marti doesn't sound all that exciting. There should be better options for a 5th starter in FA. For 2010, I would guess we're looking at our top 4 plus Hudson, so unless someone gets hurt I wouldn't anticipate another rotation move. As for our bullpen, we've got Nunez here and there is Link, DRod, Fernando Hernandez, Harrell if they move him to the pen, Omogrosso (on the DL, but ended in Charlotte) etc. all already in Charlotte. Behind them there is Santeliz in AA and Nathan Jones should be promoted pretty soon, and both of those guys could make fast moves because of their arms. It may take a while to find a replacement, but all should be ready for a shot in 2010, and I'd be absolutely shocked if none of those guys ended up sticking. Overall, I'd say we're not exactly in dire straits as far as pitching goes.

That is why he is no longer one of the better relievers. That is why guys like Jeter can sit on his straight mid-90s fastball in clutch situations and eventually do some damage with it. It's his shoulder most likely. And that rarely goes away at his age. Sox should try to sell high no him and maybe even Bobby Jenks in the off-season. Meh. Then we missed the sell high bus on Linebrink in July 2008 and with Dustin Hermanson at the same time in 2005. Those days of getting anything significant in return for him without eating salary are long gone. As noted, probably he is protecting himself from further injury by steering away from one of his most effectives pitches that puts the most torque on his shoulder (like Liriano's slider on his elbow). Princess Dye
He should feel free to bring it back in a playoff situation.
