LDF
cbs rumor>>>>>>>>>> Kelvim Escobar. The rumored deal would be Escobar to Oakland for lefty Ted Lilly and minor-league pitcher Joe Blanton i think we need him more, we can use him as a rp and a spot starter. look at who we got, white and botch. base on what oak is offering can we come close to them with some second level prospect. southsider2k5
Escobar scares me. He is very Dan Wrightesque in that you never know what you are going to get...

Chisoxfn
Blanton is a stud prospect, it would be close to the Sox giving up Honel in the move. So I say HECK NO.

Loaiza21
Gammons appears certain this deal will be made tomorrow. If Boston Pete is right, who do the Sox face tomorrow? A minor leaguer? Dan Reichert ?

Dan Reichert ? I'd almost guarantee it would be a minor leaguer. But I don't see Beane giving up Blanton for Escobar. Why not just get Suppan for less. Unless they plan on making Escobar the closer next year.

Chisoxfn
part of the other deal would be send escobar to stl for jd drew. I'd think that would be a 3 team deal, I don't see why the Jays would need Drew.

dasox24
I think that this would be a good trade for all the teams if it is a 3-way trade. Even though the A's would be giving up a stud in Blanton which would suck for them, they would get a bat that they need if in fact they got Drew. Chisoxfn
That makes more sense. Then I'd see the A's acquire Suppan to be the 5th starter.
KipWellsFan
Just to let you guys know that on Wednesday night. J.P. Ricciardi said on a Canadian radio show that the Escobar and Lilly deal was completely just rumours and that they had no deal in the works for Ted Lilly. Unless they plan on making Escobar the closer next year. That is what my feeling on the deal is. Escobar is a spot starter and playoff set-up man then the closer next year. You posted Valentine's numbers yesterday and the WHIP leads me to believe he is not quite the closer he appeared to be. The J.D. Drew to Oakland makes sense but I think they (St. Louis) would want Lidle as well. Maybe I am overestimating the skills of Drew but Escobar is not that impressive.
