Podsednik is bad at baserunning

Nope, they aren't the reasno we lost. Sure Bacon can't even lay down a bunt, but PODSEDNIK is the only reason the Sox lost tonight.

I'm going to bed before I get suspended defending him. This is unbelievable.

Beckham and Quentin had a bad night, it happens and will happen again. However, Pods continues to make far too many mistakes on the bases.

Yeah, I don't think one person has denied that.

All I am saying is let's spread the blame around equally.

Terrible defensively, worst base runner in baseball and a mediocre hitter at best. This guy is our "MVP", GTFO. He has been picked off 7 times this year and gets picked off at 3rd base with less than 2 out tonight. Pathetic.

Worthless Thread.

Podsednik is being beaten to death and no one is bringing up his strikeout with runners on 1st and 3rd and no outs. The reason why is because he was simply overpowered by Felix Hernandez, and Felix is going to do that to more than a few good hitters. If people wanted, they could b**** about that; I think it'd be wrong, but they could.

And the next highlights were Beckham grounding into the DP. He got a bit unlucky on that, as it hit the mound and kicked straight up to Lopez at 2B, but the Mariners were just positioned well in that spot, and there was nothing Beckham could do.

I hate this thread.

Let's not pick on Beckham or Quentin who went 0-fers. Let's pick on teh guy who managed to get on third and had a brain fart. Sure, he was on base twice tonight, with two hits, which is two more than Beckham or Quentin, or 1 more than Rios, Thome, AJ, or Alexei, but let's get pissed at Scott Podsednik.

His OBP is only the THIRD HIGHEST ON OUR ENTIRE TEAM of those who played tonight.

But screw him. You're right, he's worthless...

I'm with you on this...Pods was stupidly picked off 3rd but the way this team bats with RISP there was no gaurantee we would've plated him, let's not mention that we couldn't score one f***ing run other than Lexi's homer in 2 games plus.

It's a team game folks,I know we are all fustrated but that wasn't Sandy Koufax clones we faced the last 2 games.

We suck right now and the only reason we are in a pennant chase is that the AL Central will be won by the least sucky team.

Not specific to the pick off at 3rd. When you only have a couple guys who can actually run, they need to be more aggressive. Getting picked off is a price to pay for that aggressive play.

Aggressive play means occasionally being thrown out advancing, or trying to steal. Being picked off THIRD BASE WITH ONE OUT, is not aggressive, its a mental lapse.

I guess I really didn't see your point then, I said I'd rather have Beckham lead off, and you cite the fact that he had a 0 fer game. I want Beckham to lead off because he has a better OBP, runs the bases well (even if he doesn't use speed as a weapon), and is a very good hitter who I'd like to see get more PAs

You don't take rookies who are struggling a little and change your expectations in the lineup. It makes zero sense on a personal level. This isn't XBOX where feelings , emotions and attitudes are negated.

Yeap, you totally hit the heart of my point there.

Remember Steve in the world of SABRmetrics, speed is evil because they will not use it properly and will be tempted to do evil things. Since Pods is mostly a slap hitter his OPS will not look good enough in the stat pages to warrant any complements what so ever.

Thus the SABRs will always dislike him.

RC/G takes baserunning into account. Not saying stats are the end all be all, but just watching the games this year and his under 70% SB success rate tells me he has contributed this year but also struggled at times on the bases

Sounds like someone who doesn't understand how statistics are used in baseball.

Let's re-emphasize: a 67% SB rate is bad. Getting picked off 7 times in 3.5 months is bad. Getting picked off 3rd with 1 out in the 10th inning of a scoreless game with the middle of your lineup at-bat is bad. Podsednik's poor baserunning isn't the only reason we lost this game, but it's one of the biggest.
