bigruss
Bruges, Belgium: Beer wall, all 700ish Belgian beers- De Garre, a microbrew that is only available at their pub located on the smallest street in Bruges (it's an alley). 12% but damn good-
bigruss
De Halve Man Brewery- Fave beer is the Quad, just absolutely delicious THe tour- The old parts of the brewery- From on top of the brewery- Donated glass set to the brewery- And the drink afterwards (their original), it is quite good and Binny's carries it (along with the Bruge Zot Tripel and the Staffe Hendrix Tripel)

bigruss
Limerick and Cork, Ireland: Munster Rugby (of course while enjoying a Carlsberg which is quite good out there) Jameson Factory (not the original, that was in Dublin, but this was the main factory until 1975. THe original was in Dubline for only a shortwhile)

bigruss
So Im looking at the cheap vodkas on sale at Binny's and was wondering if there was truly any difference between these brands: Gordons Smirnoff Karkov Sobieski Svedka I prefer Sobieski out of that group, with Svedka and Smirnoff following, but I have never had Gordons or Karkov. They are like $5 cheaper and as long as they aren't as bad as Skol (worst vodka ever) then I would buy it since its all going to be mixed anyways. (and I know this isn't really the finer things in life )
Balta1701
Gordons is "I'm 20 years old, I can't legally drink, I have no money, and some dude is making a liquor store run" terrible.
FlaSoxxJim
Vodka is a necessary evil in the cocktail world, but not one you need to spend a fortune on. For the money, award-winning Sobieski is a winner. I haven't shelled out for Stoli since I discovered Sobieski.

Aka Skol, I will stay far away then!! QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 01:53 PM) Vodka is a necessary evil in the cocktail world, but not one you need to spend a fortune on. Yea, as a college student for parties vodka is pretty popular, and I would much rather do shots of vodka than rum, so finding one like Sobieski where its $2 more per handle than Smirnoff is fine with me. FlaSoxxJim
Yesterday was Thursday Drink Night online at Mixoloseum. The summery theme of the evenings was "tall drinks". My submission, which I think might replace JWray and Ting as my go-to JWray drink, was the Tervis Tumbler: • 1.5 oz JWray • 1 oz Canton ginger liqueur • 0.5 oz lime juice • 0.25 oz pomegranate grenadine • 4 oz ginger beer Build in ice-filled Tervis tumbler, top with ginger beer and stir 1x. Surprisingly, all that ginger still stays pretty subdued by the overproof rum. The splash of grenadine gives a bit of summer drink color and the lime juice balances out the sweetness well. If you have a fondness for the funkiness of JWray you will really like this one.
