knightni
Do you think that he's just not a smart ballplayer? He seems to have ADHD issues a lot; either defensive or on the bases.
rangercal
He won 2 games last week for us with his bat late in each of those games. \ How about we b**** about Gordon batting like a p**** of late?

You're right, kid needs a break. I can't recall any days off of late. That's a big hole at 3rd if we don't have Beckham for sure, just do not like how he's been swinging lately. If they were not clutch I would be all over them, because they both seem to have IQs of some American Idol fans, but I can appreciate the players who show up for the high pressure situations. Never called for Alexei at all. I just think Beckham shouldn't be blamed for anything as of yet. I mean the guy went 6/12 in the A's series prior to this series. He didn't have it against Bannister which was obvious he doesn't pick him up (happens to any hitter that they can't pick up a specific pitcher) and he got on base three times today still. He probably does need a day off only cause he got drilled earlier in the game and didn't look comfortable swinging afterwards. Alexei made a bonehead play as usual, but he's been good with the bat. I just appreciate that we can point to specific games where they were the player who had the biggest influence on the Sox winning. It's my biggest issue with Quentin this year. He's been basically non-influential on game's outcomes.

Kenny Hates Prospects
I've defended Alexei all year, but when I saw that play where he got thrown out after the error I immediately said he should be benched. If I had been Ozzie I'd have taken Alexei out right at that point and put Lillibridge in there, and I wouldn't have cared if Lilli struck out in every AB from that point on through the rest of the night. I hope Ozzie talks to him and then benches him tomorrow.
lostfan
QUOTE (rangercal @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 11:45 PM) Did he lose this game for us? It's debatable. I do know he WON 2 games last week for us. A player doesn't win games by himself, you know that. If one of your favorite players made a really bad mistake that ended up being the decisive run scored/not scored and someone made a thread you'd be saying "we didn't lose the game because of so and so, stop b****ing." I think this point is really valid (if not exactly a revelation), Alexei can hit especially when he's hot, but his head is never in the game. Most physically gifted player on the team, but he's a bonehead.

That ball is dropped by someone in this league maybe 3 times a year.
iamshack
The thing that I took notice of though in regards to Beckham was his facial expression when the first base umpire called him out on that check swing...he had a whiny, frustrated look on his face which made it quite clear he is tired. That is not something that is usually in his makeup. I think he needs a day off pretty badly. Looks like we may need to call on Josh Fields yet again for a few games in September... Harry Chappas
I will agree with the Pods, Ramirez and Beckham talk in this thread but the reason the Sox are not winning more is because the abyss that is Dye, Konerko and Thome show up once a week and I am saying only one of them once a week or hit the random homerun. It has become an annual rite of passage they stop playing for months at a time. Edited August 19, 2009 by Jenks Heat
