CSF
In the Carolina League portion, Morel was given the nod. Also, best managerial prospect went to Joe McEwing with the Dash in the Carolina League poll. On a side note, Dexter Carter was voted for Best Breaking Pitch for the SAL when he was with Kanny. ThunderBolt
Congrats to 1st year manager Joe McEwing. Most be cool for him to get this kind of reward only a year or two after retiring as a player.
Dizzy Sox
I think Morel is going to be a good player. Having only 9 or 10 errors in a full season of Hi-A is remarkable...
DBAHO
When the pick was made, I think many people thought it was an overdraft, but Morel's proved to be a pretty solid prospect thus far, especially with the glove. His offensive numbers at B-Ham will be very interesting to follow next season.
southsider2k5
Has anyone here seen Morel? Could we be looking at another Joe Crede type 3B in the making?
ptatc
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) Has anyone here seen Morel? Could we be looking at another Joe Crede type 3B in the making? I don't think so. Crede was an MVP at two levels, A and AA, I believe. Morel while doing well, isn't putting up those kind of numbers. southsider2k5
QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 01:02 PM) I don't think so. Crede was an MVP at two levels, A and AA, I believe. Morel while doing well, isn't putting up those kind of numbers. I was thinking as more of a great defender and average major league hitter. Yeah, that's the weird part about it. In the minors Crede was a very good hitter and average defender. It switched in the majors. Let's hope Morel's defense stays where it is and the offense kicks ups.
Marky Mark
QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) Yeah, that's the weird part about it. In the minors Crede was a very good hitter and average defender. It switched in the majors. Let's hope Morel's defense stays where it is and the offense kicks ups. Although his offense could be better, its not like he's bad on offense. 6th in homers, 6th in RBIs, 5th in 2B, 7th in OPS, 10th in SB

Not to quibble but Crede has been a below average offensive player at his position for basically his entire career sans 2006.

Don't let stats get in the way of his cult hero status.
Dizzy Sox
Congrats to Morel. from what I've heard of him it sounds like he could make a case for the best fielding 3rd baseman in the monors, not just A ball. He's been hitting very well recently also...lets hope he keeps it up in B-ham next season.
