flavum
Hudson is falling behind in the count against everyone in the first inning+.
Ozzie Ball
QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 12:38 AM) Hudson is falling behind in the count against everyone in the first inning+. Yeah, he's made his way safely through 2 innings now but his pitch count is at 44 already (23 strikes).
NorthSideSox72
I just noticed that Justin Greene is sporting a .555 OPS in High A, in 104 AB. 28 K versus 8 BB. Yuck.
flavum
Pitch count too high for Hudson. 91 pitches through 5 innings. 53 strikes. Still, good results: 1 run 6 hits 2 BB 4 K 1 WP
CSF
Arrgh. Hudson done after 5 innings. He's gotta get that pitch count down! 92 pitches thru 5 innings is Contreras-like. Still, 1 run, 2 BB, 4 K's is a decent night's work. But that pitch count is gonna get him.
CSF
Gilmore 1/3 with an RBI double. After the horrififc first half of the year, he's slowly getting that average up. Now at .261. Now he's gotta show the power that was mentioned when he came in the Javy deal.
Ozzie Ball
From Ben Badler: Hudson done, 5 IP, 1 R. FB 90-93, good changeup, solid slider.
ThunderBolt
Durham has some great prospects on it. Given that, Hudson's stuggles were logical. I'm actually fairly impressed.
ILMOU
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 07:19 PM) Durham has some great prospects on it. Given that, Hudson's stuggles were logical. I'm actually fairly impressed. I'm encouraged by the 8 groundouts vs. 3 flyouts. He'd been throwing too many fly balls lately. Count was good today, but we're likely giving Freddy only one more try, so his next start might still be an audition for the bigs.
Balta1701
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) Count was good today, but we're likely giving Freddy only one more try, so his next start might still be an audition for the bigs. There's that other guy in Charlotte's rotation who's a little more likely to take that SP opening.

Good point. Torres is due for another crack at the rotation.
Dizzy Sox
Huddy didn't have his best stuff, and still he battled and got the W against a fairly good team. That is the mark of a good pitcher.
SoxAce
Brent Morel is really making my penis hard. Nice to see Gilmore have a nice night. Phegley continues to hit during August. Remenowsky.. still ridiculous. John Ely with just an amazing year.
CSF
Shelby with a nice 3/4 game in the 2nd game of the DH for B-Ham. Although is Viciedo banged up? He didn't play in either game.

beck72
QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 06:26 AM) Learning to keep pitch count down is something that a lot of pitchers have to learn to do in AAA before they make the jump to the bigs. That's why I would not look to have Hudson be the 5th starter in 2010 to start the year [though he could compete for the job in ST]. He's made huge leaps this year. But he's still really young and could probably use more time in AAA. When Hudson comes up, I want him to stay.
NorthSideSox72
Kanny wins in 10 on a Gilmore walk followed by a Phegley double. Nice to see Phegley figuring it out a bit.Remenowsky with the win, his 10th inning looked like this: Jeff Hulett strikes out swinging. Christopher Jackson strikes out swinging. Albert Cartwright called out on strikes. Also of note, Remenowsky has gone 2+ innings both his last outings. Given he doesn't have prototypical closer stuff and was a starter in college, I wonder if they might start stretching him out and try him as a starter.
