SouthsideDon48
I thought this would be a fun thread to speculate on who we think might be called up when rosters expand in September. Here's my predictions: 1. Peavy (will just be called up) 2. Getz (activated off DL) 3. Wise (activated off DL) 4. Nunez 5. Armstrong Who's your predictions? knightni
Peavy Wise Torres Fields Getz Betemit - DFA/Waived
SoxAce
Fields definitely. I would think Flowers, Nunez and maybe Link too. We'll see you next year Dan Hudson. Edited August 22, 2009 by SoxAce
knightni
I'd take Torres over Nunez. Link may be called up, but with Peavy coming back, they'll have Contreras, Garcia and Torres fighting over the #5 job.
Quin
QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Aug 22, 2009 -> 04:54 PM) I thought this would be a fun thread to speculate on who we think might be called up when rosters expand in September. Here's my predictions: 1. Peavy (will just be called up) 2. Getz (activated off DL) 3. Wise (activated off DL) 4. Nunez 5. Armstrong Who's your predictions? Peavy's on the DL, so he can be on a playoff roster. My guesses are... 1. Peavy (off DL) 2. Getz (off DL) 3. Viciedo 4. Fields 5. Flowers 6. Egbert 7. Torres 8. Whisler 9. Marquez 10. Nunez
knightni
I don't know if they'd bring up pitchers and hitters from AAA in a pennant race just to sit them. Viciedo, Flowers, Egbert, Whisler and Marques may not see the majors in '09.
caulfield12
QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 22, 2009 -> 05:23 PM) I don't know if they'd bring up pitchers and hitters from AAA in a pennant race just to sit them. Viciedo, Flowers, Egbert, Whisler and Marques may not see the majors in '09. Having Flowers and Viciedo around the ballclub will be great experience for them, to see a pennant race firsthand. All those other pitchers who don't figure into our future plans (Whisler, Egbert, Marquez, Van Benschoten), forget about it. I'm reallly hesitant to say that Link will get much of a look in the future, when Omogrosso/Nunez/Santeliz all have much better pure stuff, maybe even F. Hernandez now has the advantage over Link. knightni
Nunez and/or Torres will be a big part of this bullpen next year unless they sign a free agent or two.
DaveBrown85
what about Ehren Wassermann ?

earthshiner
QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Aug 22, 2009 -> 08:27 PM) what about Ehren Wassermann ? I'm guessing we'll see him just cause he is a known commodity. Plus we'll see Whistler, Fields, and Armstrong
Quin
Forgot about Wasserman, I saw him lose a game in Charlotte (Aardsma blew the save). My dad said he'd never see the majors. 3 days later...
DaveBrown85
i remember last year when the playoff rosters were announced and wasserman wasnt on it. He was one of the few guys to still stay with the team.
Milkman delivers
QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 12:32 AM) i remember last year when the playoff rosters were announced and wasserman wasnt on it. He was one of the few guys to still stay with the team. Didn't somebody leave almost immediately? Here's a question I have that I couldn't find the answer to on Wikipedia. When did baseball start having September call-ups?
Wanne
Doesn't each person called up get a prorated portion of salary equal to $75K for a month (league minimum)? If that's the truth...I think you need to think twice about calling up 10 people and paying an extra 750K for a month. Maybe 5 or so...but sure as hell not 10. chunk23
A friend of Tyler Flowers told me that he (Flowers) is 99% expecting a call-up.

Dizzy Sox
Flowers, Whisler to have another lefty in the pen, maybe Fields is KW is feeling generousm and perhaps either Torres or Nunez (but not both).

Texsox
This will really depend on how tight the race is. I do not see them calling up more than a couple guys if it is a dog fight. Fields and Flowers for two. Maybe an arm or two.
ChiSox_Sonix
Fields Nunez Torres Flowers Possibly Whisler and Betemit I also wouldn't mind Viciedo to get called up after the AA playoffs are done. Even if doesn't get a single AB, I think it could be a good experience for him being in a playoff race and being around our other two Cubans for a couple weeks.
