Fenway Park

Speaking of Fenway...

Is it just me, or, historical neatness aside, is that not one of the worst ballparks in the Majors?

It seems to reward balls that are hit poorly more than balls that are hit well. A rocket off the MONSTAH can result in a single, but a pop up can result in a homerun. A 302 foot ball that would normally be a foul about 40 feet before it reaches a normal fence can hook around Pesky's lame ass pole.

I'm sorry, it's neat, it's different, but the anomalies it creates for the players who play there regularly and their stats is just annoying, and it seems like winning there is really a crapshoot.

My personal feeling is that the majority of people who feel that way only do because it is where the Sawx play.

it's not as if it was built 5 years ago to help them out. They just haven't changed it. I personally love that all stadiums are different and I love the little oddities and quirks many stadiums have.

Agreed. I like that there are parks like Fenway around.

I went to a game there 2 years ago (this in response to the original topic). Make sure at some point during the game, you venture out onto the street that is now basically part of the park, behind the stands (I can't remember the name of the street). Just go mill around, its fun.

The seats are cramped and the food is disappointing, but there really is a neat, small-park, historic feel to the place. More so than Wrigley, IMO. Fun place to catch a game.

One thing I didn't get to do was get up into the area on top of the Monstah. I'd like to see a game from there sometime.

And Boston is a great town - probably my fave in the US outside of Chicago. Lots of great stuff to do.

Everything to do in Boston is within a 1-mile radius of Fenway. Just walk around and find something you would like to do instead of taking suggestions from other people and forcing yourself to see all of it.

And yes, Fenway is a real piece of crap. It may have a dirtier feel than Wrigley, very damp and acrid in certain areas, in fact.

My personal feeling is that you ignored my entire post, that gave reasoning. I wouldn't care if the Rockies played there, it is still stupid.

I took a tour of Fenway, but never went to a game.

There's a brewpub across from the stadium that pretty good. Also, Yawkey is filled with vendors (I believe) on game days which is probably where most people go.

I feel the same.

you complain too much. Maybe you should trade your wii back for the 360. You used to be much happier.

I'd say most of Boston's great stuff to do is around downtown, not near Fenway. The area around Fenway is really only good for the bars, from what I saw. So I guess if that's your thing, then that's your neighborhood. If not, get downtown.

I was probably being too vague, but my point is that the size of the city is pretty damn small. It's pretty much all within walking distance.

That's true, Boston is not as big as you'd think. You can walk to everything, as you say. Actually, one of the cool things to do (at least to me anyway) is follow that city trail (I think its called the Freedom Trail), that is a yellow line on the sidewalks winding through the city to cool historical spots.

There are a lot of great bars in downtown Boston. I stayed At the Boston Plaza Hotel when i was there for a conference and you could literaly walk to the actual 'cheers' bar which was pretty neat. Fenway is about 6-8 miles away from downtown so it isn't to bad. Just take the train. Don't stay in Boston for too long though, you will eventually start talking with that ridiculous accent.

The only downside is that you couldn't look more like a tourist, ha. When a lot of my family came to visit, they wanted to do it. I absolutely would not.

Well, "actual" Cheers bar is sort of misleading in the first place. They only used the outside shot of the bar, of course, plus there are now like 30 Cheers' around the city.
