Even if a team blocks the waiver from a contender, can't the Sox just dump the player on that team? Just getting Linebrink off the books would be a win-win situation.

Yes. But the odds of someone claiming Linebrink are very slim. Of course I thought no one would claim Wagner.

The White Sox are expected to want to pick up Jermaine Dye's $12MM mutual option for 2010, but Dye could turn it down and try the free agent market instead.

per mlb rumors. where did they get that from? no way that would happen even if he was having a great year

Maybe if we offered Liney and one Chevy Pride girl some team would do it.

If Chevy drops their sponsorship like JR predicted, the Pride girl would need something to do. The bottom line is there is a 99.9% chance the Sox big names are going nowhere.

I really think, and again I may be wrong, this news may be more about Peavy than anyone else. If the Sox win tonight, and the pitching match up is favorable, the Sox would be 5 back with a month to go. Not ideal, but not as crazy as some other times KW thought he had a chance. The Sox are holding off the Peavy announcement until after the game. He's not saying anything until the announcement. Has KW ever "given up" only 5 out with an ace about ready to enter the rotation? It makes no sense. Hopefully, I'm just very wrong, but if I'm not, I hope its nothing in Peavy's elbow that will threaten anything more than the rest of this season.

....or maybe not. atleast not according to him

''I've seen plenty of catchers on other teams, and I believe wholeheartedly that I'm better than them behind the plate.

Unless he's outstanding defensively, it makes a lot of sense to move him away from behind the plate if his bat lives up to its billing. Guys like Mauer and Rodriquez were good defensively so moving them out didn't make as much sense. An average defensive catcher who can pile up huge numbers offensively should switch positions if possible.
