SoxFan562004
ha, I was just coming to post this too, damn this is hysterical. Also the guys who ran firejoemorgan.com were the guest editors on deadspin yesterday, some good Jeter reality checks there too!
Texsox
I would love to see Baines in the Hall of Fame.
BigSqwert
I guess I shouldn't have put this in the MLB Catch All thread earlier.
SoxFan562004
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) I guess I shouldn't have put this in the MLB Catch All thread earlier. Nah, the hysterical floating head of Harold in the background it makes it PHT worthy IMO, but let's see what the mods do with it.

santo=dorf
I would love to see Baines in the Hall of Fame. Why? It lowers the bar and his speech wouldn't be anything special.
Quin
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 05:26 PM) Why? It lowers the bar and his speech wouldn't be anything special. How does it lower the bar? The guy is 37th all time hit leader and has the most RBI's of any player not inducted into the HoF but is eligible. santo=dorf
I bet a lot of hall of famers wish they could benefit by hanging around the league by patrolling the DH spot and getting 300 at-bats a season because the manager protects against pitchers who'll be tough on them. The only thing Harold ever led the league in was SLG% in 1984.

Eh, I love Hal just as much as the next guy, but there's no way that he's a hall of famer. That's why the Onion article is so funny, yo. Dick Allen
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 08:05 PM) How does it lower the bar? The guy is 37th all time hit leader and has the most RBI's of any player not inducted into the HoF but is eligible. So if you let him in, whoever is right behind him will have the most RBI of any player not inducted into the HOF. So you probably should let that player in as well. It will work its way down to everyone being in the HOF. Baines had a great career, but not a HOF career.
fren.
Baines' best year doesn't come close to Jeter's best. 29/94/.304/.903/142+ 24/102/.349/.989/153 OPS+ They weren't being serious with the comment, but Baines was a DH and Jeter plays a premium position and has the higher OPS. Milkman delivers
QUOTE (earthshiner @ Sep 18, 2009 -> 08:12 PM) 9 of the next 10 are also in the HOF. The other one is Dawson Harold Baines is not a Hall of Famer, and he never will be. It's as simple as that. People ought to let it go because it will never ever happen. He doesn't deserve to be in there and he won't ever be there. Period.
