i know im new here but been i sox hard core fan for 30 plus years . now i know i will get hammer about trading mark but as much as i like him i believe trading him could benifit us next year and beyond . i have 2 possible trades both with st louis the first would be burhrle to st louis for kyle mcclellen and cody rasmus maybe prospects going both ways or something . my number 2 trade would be buehrle to st louis we get kyle mcclellen and san diego would get 2 or 3 prospects to go along with a package of prospects from us to get adrian gonzales . even possibly heath bell . now we also move 14 mil in salary to use in other areas . i like mark but he winning 13 games a year for me thats not worth 14 mil bucks and with peavy as our ace and hudson looking like a very good number 4 starter moving burhrle makes sense . also i have other follow on trades that could help us . ok blast away i know i will get hammer but i had to step in my new sox talk site sooner or later . take care all go sox in 2010 :gosoxretro:

If you could trade Buehrle alone and get back Heath Bell and Adrian Gonzalez I bet they'd do it. But that's the kind of deal it would take; the Sox would absolutely have to feel like they were raping the other team. Buehrles brings the team so much positive press, works so well with the fans, has so much of a history that it needs to be us being blown away.

Otherwise, I'm not ready to go with Hudson full time yet, I'd rather him start the season in the pen or AAA, I'd rather be 6 deep in the starting rotation, and I think this rotation can pitch us to a title if we get an average amount of offense.

Welcome to soxtalk! :cheers :cheers

Though I disagree with your assessment, I'll admit your proposals (especially the first one) are not bad at all (or just terrible/don't make any sense for us as even some vets here do). I would drool if we ever got Cody Rasmus.

If he gets traded, it won't be this offseason.

The Sox like their rotation.

i admit there rotation would be very good but in todays game a good bullpen and good hitting is needed to win . i mean the sox this year had more quility starts then any team in the american league and were under 500 so the rotation wasnt really the problem this year and with or without buehrle wont be the problem next year .

You should keep your strengths a strength, we don't REALLY have anyone knocking at the door and considering how our 4/5 performed this year, seeing an awesome 4 is something you should keep. If we had a few arms to try out/the market was fine for backend starters I might try it.

But great starting pitching can mask a lot of the other deficiencies.

Getting a good bullpen is like catching lightning in a bottle. It's unlikely, but if it's done, people are perplexed as to how it happened.

true but we need some new blood if not just the bullpen our 3 4 and 5 hitters we need a power hitter with a good obp and only guys i can think we could get is gonzales or maybe lind in toronto but i think that would cost us alexi and others so if i had to trade alot i would rather go for adrian gonzales and i feel buehrle would help us get him in a 3 way trade

If the Cardinals want him, Buehrle might want to go, but I have my doubts that he'd want to go anywhere else. Besides, why would San Diego trade Peavy and his contract away, then turn back around and acquire an older pitcher who is a step down from Peavy but has the same sized contract?

Lets just pretend for a second the Sox would consider trading Buehrle. In that scenario, the Pads trade their two best assets, and add payroll in the process. Not going to happen.
buehrle would go to st louis not san diego we would send prospects to san diego and st louis would send propects to san diego in return we get gonzales possibly bell but mostly gonzales the only team added salary is st louis not san diego

why is everyone missing what i wrote ? buehrle would go to st louis not san diego . only prospects would go to san diego from us and st louis . i believe buehrle would only approve a trade to st louis anyway . and why do people say if the sox would even consider trading buehrle ? i like the guy but come on he is not a ace who is going to win 20 games and at 14 mil a year why wouldnt the sox consider trading him ?

I did read your scenario wrong, thats my fault.

Sox aren't going to trade Buehrle either way, but that scenario is at least semi-realistic.

well they may not trade him but i wouldnt be suprised if they did .

Let's not forget leading the league in surrendering the most unearned runs.

IN a season where the Sox had an awful record, they aren't about to trade the most recognizable piece of the team when they are trying to sell season tickets. Somehow the Sox are going to have to convince the casual fan that they are in it for 2010, and trading the face of the franchise isn't how you do it.

Mark's performance the last two months, plus his contract, means no one will take him for what you guys are considering. His trading value is waaay down.

One thing to remember about his contract is that the option year becomes guaranteed is he's dealt. That might limit the number of small- and medium-payroll teams that would be in the market for him.

Dealing Mark right now doesn't make much sense, for a number of reasons already mentioned in this thread. If the Sox are out of it in July of 2011, trading him to the Cardinals would make sense. Before then, not so much.

So the Sox should trade AJ, trade Konerko, trade Buerhle and just get back a bunch of prospects. Apparently there are people on this board more interested in minor league baseball than major league baseball. What did Minnesota get back for Santana? Is that what everyone wants? I prefer trying to win than having some decent minor leaguers who will bust in a couple of years. The AL Central blows. The Sox should win it every year for a while.

Awesome post D. Allen!! I agree. With a couple of smart moves this winter (shore up the pen, a legit leadoff hitter) the Sox should be in position to be atop the AL Central for 2-3 straight seasons.

He had one bad month and that was August, he followed that up with a very solid September, his trade value is fine. But like SS2k said, trading him is just a horrible idea for a variety of reasons.
