Sox should have signed Frank in September. Put him in a Sox uniform and sat him on the bench. Maybe give him an at bat or two in a blow out.

From the last photo I saw of him, he looked quite out of shape. I bet he'd hurt himself if he tried to play without several months of conditioning right now.

I really hate myself for not recording more games during the 90's. If anybody has any games from that time they'd like to sell, please, message me.

Yea, so many great Hall of Fame players played in Chicago when i was young and I really wish I had been older to really appreciate them more. Jordon, Thomas, Sandburg, Payton, and those are just to name a few and most had retired or reached their peak before I even got into high school (freshman year was 1997). Back then I watched sports, but didn't really "take in" and fully understand their greatness.

Same here. In Thomas, Jordan and Payton, we had three of the best ever at what they did. Now thanks to youtube, I can get plenty of Jordan/Payton (especially Jordan). But it's next to impossible to get vintage Frank Thomas games/highlights. I would do anything to get my hands on games from '93 and '94.

Does anybody know if Oz hates Big Hurt?

Big Hurt would satisfy the worst critics as our hitting coach. He drew walks as a player, didn't he learn from Hriniak? He had a great approach, great swing.

Of course he's probably too rich to want to work again, but some ballplayers like to sit in a dugout and get out of the house.

Big Hurt for hitting coach??

Good point Knight. Like LaRussa and Lasorda. They had cups of coffee in the bigs I believe.

Big Hurt would be a popular choice and our fans would love it.

Like I said though, he's probably too proud and too rich to consider it. And I didn't know if Oz hated him or not.

I don't know if Thomas wants to coach or not, has he ever been asked?

You don't have to be a good player to be a good coach. Sometimes the guys who weren't stars make better coaches because they spent more time studying the game.

Wasn't Frank the one who refused to listen to any hitting coach but Walt? To the point where they have to fly Walt in occasionally to help Frank?

How true. Walt Hriniak only had a cup of coffee in the majors. Charlie Lau was around for awhile but never a star player. It's kinda funny how a guy with a .255 career batting average became regarded as THE premier hitting coach and even wrote a book How To Hit .300.

As for Frank, though he was a great hitter I don't think he could be successful as a coach. He never exactly had a good rapport with teammates, did he?
