knightni
So, who do you think will get the 7 spots?
League
I'm going to assume that we keep Bobby - CL) Jenks SU) Thornton SU) Hudson MRP) Free Agent(Joe Beimel?)/Johnny Nunez MRP) Tony Pena MRP) Scott Linebrink LRP) DJ Carrasco.
knightni
Any thoughts on Torres or Harrell making it?
League
I could see one of those guys becoming the long reliever if the Sox feel like DJ is a setup guy.
GreatScott82
I'm guessing there will be about 3 to 4 new faces. Its too early to tell what KW will do.

Quin
I have it at 8 spots, with a 4 man bench (Kotsay, Flowers, De Aza, Nix) Keeping Bobby CL - Jenks SU - Thornton SU - Hudson MR - Nunez MR - Pena MR - Linebrink LR - Torres LR - Carrasco The Bobby-Alexei for Ellsbury-Okajima-Bard trade Olney suggested CL - Thornton SU - Okajima SU - Bard MR - Nunez MR - Pena MR - Linebrink LR - Hudson LR - Carrasco

Quin
I guess I take out Nunez for Torres in the second one, not much I'm doing with the first one unless you drop Nunez for a FA lefty.
Kenny Hates Prospects
QUOTE (League @ Oct 25, 2009 -> 08:07 AM) I'm going to assume that we keep Bobby - CL) Jenks SU) Thornton SU) Hudson MRP) Free Agent(Joe Beimel?)/Johnny Nunez MRP) Tony Pena MRP) Scott Linebrink LRP) DJ Carrasco. If we keep Jenks then that will probably be it, except for Nunez because we'll need another lefty.
knightni
They need to trade a guy or two for a lefty RP.
LittleHurt05
what about Randy Williams? he got Mauer & Morneau out, if you dont believe me, just ask Hawk
maggsmaggs
Cl- Jenks SU- Thornton MR- Williams MR- Linebrink MR- Carrasco MR- Pena LR- Torres Williams had two bad outings the entire year, although they were big games. But overall, he did very well against lefties (.162 BAA), so I could hardly complain about having him as the second lefty in the pen. Jenks isn't going anywhere, he finished the year on a strong note. Thornton is a stud, enough said. Linebrink is untradeable, so he unfortunately stays. Pena was OK for a 6th inning guy, Carrasco was solid and we need a long reliever since D.J. probably moves into a more important role. The big question is the 7th inning. Can Pena/Linebrink get the job done? Edited October 25, 2009 by maggsmaggs
Kenny Hates Prospects
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 25, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) what about Randy Williams? he got Mauer & Morneau out, if you dont believe me, just ask Hawk Williams in a lefty specialist role *only* wouldn't be so bad. We could definitely do worse, and we have done much worse in the past. I'd much rather bring in a few guys to compete with him though, all with equal or better shots of making the club. Ideally I'd love to have a solid veteran there, but you get to a point where you just don't want to keep sinking money into a bullpen. If however we trade Jenks and make Thornton the closer, then we definitely need to find a good lefty who can pitch to both lefties and righties to work in a setup role. Williams will not come close to filling that hole.

elrockinMT
At this point I I am only banking on Thornton and most likley Jenks being back. The pen will be different I think-only question is how different and will different mean different faces or the same but maybe healthier? daa84
IMO relievers, unlike starters, have theri best trade value at the deadline, rather than in the offseason (like starters)...i wouldn't at all be opposed to waiting til the deadline to move bobby, although at that point we likely won't be in sell mode (at least i hope not)
