Balta1701
The Rays are off to a 21-7 start to the year. The last team with that good of a record to start the year? 2005 white sox.
Jordan4life_2007
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 8, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) The Rays are off to a 21-7 start to the year. The last team with that good of a record to start the year? 2005 white sox. They're actually 22-7. And what's an even scarier proposition for the rest of the AL is that other than Crawford and Longoria, there's nobody in their everyday lineup that you can say is playing up to their full capabilities. In fact, a couple of their key guys (mainly Zobrist) are underachieving. Of course, when your starting rotation is a combined 18-3 with a 2.41 ERA you don't need that much offense. fathom
I used to think Crawford was overrated, but he's really reaching his peak it seems. That team really is special, as David Price is looking like a Cy Young contender.

And the Yankees are pretty much in the same boat. 20-8 overall, 19-4 in games not started by Vazquez, getting great starting pitching besides Vazquez and scoring runs despite Teixeira not hitting at all, Nick Johnson not hitting at all, Granderson struggling and ARod hitting well below his capabilities. Those two teams are by far and away the class of the AL. Edited May 8, 2010 by whitesoxfan99

Jordan4life_2007
Tough night for Charlie Haeger: 0.0 IP, 2 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 0 K. Your rotation is in trouble when two former White Sox pitching prospects (Ely being the other) are in it. caulfield12
No to a team in Indiana, Louisville or Buffalo... http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Amd3...i-yankees050810 Are the Yankees getting too old, too fast?
Kyyle23
with all of the Yankee problems getting old, it is still mentioned in the article that they have only lost once since April 27th, so it doesnt look to be affecting them too much. And a lot of the injuries they have are minor, and the players will be back playing fairly soon. The only thing that really affects this lineup hardcore is if 2 of Arod, Tex and Jeter go down for extended periods of time. They can stand to lose one of them, but if they lose 2 they will be in trouble offensively. Pitching wise, they still have a pretty damn good rotation, even with Javy gas-canning it up at the back of the rotation

Cerbaho-WG
Mariners fire their hitting coach. Amazing that a team holds their hitting coach responsible. However, that offense is just full of bad players. Wilson, Griffey, Kotchman, Sweeney, Moore and Johnson are all bad offensive players. None of them deserve the amount of ABs they're getting. The hitting coach deserves some blame but Zduriencik deserves more for putting together that offense.

knightni
Underrated by stats or underrated by fandom? Ted Williams is overrated by fans but his career is underrated because without WWII and Korea stints, he would have blown Babe Ruth off of the top of every stat record. GoodAsGould
QUOTE (knightni @ May 9, 2010 -> 08:57 PM) Underrated by stats or underrated by fandom? Ted Williams is overrated by fans but his career is underrated because without WWII and Korea stints, he would have blown Babe Ruth off of the top of every stat record. That doesnt really make sense, everyone knows his career was shortened by wars and even without them there is a decent chance he doesnt break the all time HR record unless he played another season or so at the end of his career. I meant that while east coast fans worship the guy more than he deserves, the stats he produced in limited games played could have been huge if he hadn't had prime years taken away by military service. He lost ages 24-26 and a good part of his early and mid-30s (31, 33, 34, 36) to time away from the game. You average 30 HR per year added and he could have finished with around 700. So you go from blowing Babe Ruth from every stat too maybe around 700 HR's which is less than Ruth...He was a great hitter and yes he lost some time which sucks but there is nothing underrated about him. caulfield12
Roberto Clemente was very underrated...until he became so popular and revered because of his off-field community work and the nature of his death, he became mythologized almost.
