hammerhead johnson
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 03:59 PM) Yep, it appears that rumors of Vazquez being a mental midget were more then true QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) I think of "mental midget" equating to a lack of intelligence. I don't think that's the problem here. This is more "emotional house of cards". He crumbles under pressure. I associate the term "mental midget" moreso with someone who crumbles under pressure. In my case, if I can't get it up during sex, it's because I am a mental midget. The more that I think about it, the less likely it is that I'll be able to get it up. It has nothing to do with my IQ. Of course, this was all during the pre-viagra days. But could you call Milton Bradley a mental midget based on his lack of intelligence? No question. hammerhead johnson
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 01:29 AM) From what I can tell he's the only player in big league history to put up an OPS of at least .890 and a batting average of .230 or lower over a 500+ PA season. The only other player to do it with at least 33 PA in a season was in fact Frank Thomas in 2005. So only 2 players have gotten at least 33 PA in a season and put up an OPS of at least .890 and a batting average of .230 or lower. So yeah, it's basically next to impossible. Only 7 players in the history of the game have put up an OPS of at least .800 with a batting average of .230 or lower over a 400+ PA season. The last one to do it was Adam Dunn in 2003 when he put up a .215/.354/.465/.819 line with 27 HR in 469 PA. The highest OPS of the other 6 was Gene Tenace in 1980 who put up a .222/.399/.424/.823 line with 92 BB in 416 PA, that's the 2nd most walks all time in a season with 420 or fewer PA; Ferris Fain walked 94 times in 358 PA in 1955 his line for the season: .260/.455/.326/.781 This is an excellent post. The sad thing is, you're right. I just can't see him keeping up the 1.347 OPS all season. That'd be 200 points above his career best. Cali
Is Mariano Rivera EVER gonna regress? Dude is a freak. Every season I think, well he wont be so dominant this year, I mean he's 40, but every year he's a rock...
Milkman delivers
QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 01:38 PM) Except he's got a history of s***ting himself on a big stage...hell a stage that even remotely matters. Javy Vasquez sucks. Plain & simple, he may get a good amount of strikeouts but hes no more than a #4 to me. The White Sox also have a track record of the crappy, inconsistent offense they've shown this year.

caulfield12
Is Chris B. Young for real again? Or just an anomalous beginning to 2010? Should I write another article revisiting the Javy Vazquez trade? From Phil Rogers
chw42
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 12:30 PM) Is Chris B. Young for real again? Or just an anomalous beginning to 2010? Should I write another article revisiting the Javy Vazquez trade? From Phil Rogers Maybe. But it's also like asking, "is Vernon Wells for real again?". It's too early to tell. The Diamondbacks were a hell of a team for a good two months in 08, but then everybody on that team regressed the rest of the year. I don't think Young is that great of a player to begin with, but he could have a much, much better season than he did last year, which isn't saying all that much. I think BB is overrated as f*** (Wite, Thunderbolt, I don't want to hear it). But the haul he got for Haren was SICK. My opinion of Beane has lessened over the years. I still like him, but i reckon he's quickly getting passed by Jack Z and even KW himself. You're not getting any guff from me.
caulfield12
You don't think Jack Z made a very silly move taking on the Bradley contract, undoing a lot of the good he'd done in 2009? At least he has a philosophy, defense/pitching first, but he obviously needs Lee for that to work...and the offense has been putrid to date.
