We could debate all day who the best 2B in the AL is. I think we can all agree that even if Pedroia foolishly moves over to SS, that in no way shape or form leaves Gordon Beckham as the "premier 2B in the AL," as Quinarvy stated.

Agreed.

Second base has become very strong in the AL recently, much like SS was back at the beginning of the decade.

Heyman's Latest Trade/Free Agency Buzz

• Jermaine Dye has drawn interest from the Rangers, Giants, Cardinals, Braves and Yankees -- though the Yankees' interest is dependent on other options falling through. The Red Sox, Angels and Cubs are seen as other, somewhat-less-likely possibilities for Dye. Dye's 164 home runs are the most by an AL outfielder over the last five years (and the third-most by any AL player, behind only Alex Rodriguez and David Ortiz).

• Joe Crede is drawing interest from at least the Orioles and Astros.

Jermaine Dye in a Cubs jersey would be hilarious, it would keep Fukudome in CF -- a position he really can not play -- and add one of the worst defenders in baseball (regardless of position) to an outfield that already has Alfonso Soriano in LF. Comedy would surely ensue. That could very well be the worst defensive outfield of all time.

Your waaaaaay late to the game homie. (Post #607) But since you like to point these things out to boost your self esteem and maintain your outstanding intelligence, and to give the good drunk rant stuff to a tee with that extra year added on from ya in your stats, I will let you have this one Blake. :) Of of course I believe Kalapse or qwerty or Cheat said that even before me back then.

I never used 8 years. So there.

The Braves are on FIRE!!

Braves Interested In Marlon Byrd

By Tim Dierkes [December 4 at 2:09pm CST]

The Braves have "strong interest" in free agent outfielder Marlon Byrd, in the words of his agent Seth Levinson (MLB.com's Mark Bowman reporting).

Bowman, however, believes Byrd is "just one of many candidates that the Braves are evaluating." A Mark DeRosa reunion is possible, with DeRosa apparently willing to take a hometown discount. Back on November 23rd, Dave O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution named Josh Willingham, Mike Cameron, Jermaine Dye, and perhaps Xavier Nady as other right-handed hitters on the Braves' radar.

Royals showing interest in Pods..

http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2009/...e-interest.html

The Kansas City Royals reportedly have some interest in free agent outfielder Scott Podsednik, according to reports in the Kansas City Star and FoxSports.com.

The White Sox are looking for a leadoff hitter but have gone nearly two months without reaching an agreement with Podsednik, who batted .304 with a .353 on-base percentage in five months with the Sox after being released by Colorado.

Holy s***!

Marlins offered Smoak and Perez by Texas for Johnson and apparently declined it.

I would be all over that move. I cant believe the Marlines didnt accept that.

I don't buy that rumor for a second. JJ is filthy good. But he's not THAT filthy good.

I wasnt quite sure but two sources came out with the same rumor, so you never know. I just dont see the Marlins turning that down though.

6 years each of cost certainty Feliz/Smoak would provide vs Josh Johnson's last two arb years? The Marlins management should be banished from the sport forever if they turned that down. I'd have to think really hard not to give up JJ for Feliz alone. That's how good Feliz is. But Feliz AND Smoak? Nope. No way.

Not to mention you really get the feeling that Johnson's arm is going to fall off at some point.

KANSAS CITY, MO—During a Monday conference call with the media, Royals GM Dayton Moore confessed he had "no idea" he was permitted to make player transactions between baseball seasons. "I guess that makes sense. I was always a little surprised when teams came back the next spring with different players," said Moore, adding that he just assumed most teams made the last of their personnel decisions during Game 7 of the World Series. "I've already contacted the agents for Hideki Matsui and John Lackey to try and convince them to play here for free, and I'm working on a trade for Jason Varitek. He's got something to prove." Moore said the revelation that he would be working through the winter gave him all the more reason to look forward to his annual October vacation

New York Post - Free-agent outfielder Johnny Damon is ready to start looking around for options other than returning to the Yankees.

"I am going to start looking around. Teams are getting better and there are teams interested," Damon told The New York Post. "I can't wait forever and I am sure [the Yankees] are trying to figure things out. I have to be ready."

Damon wants to return to the Yankees, but the World Champions aren't willing to give him more than a two-year deal worth around $10 million annually.

Agent Scott Boras says that Damon deserves a three or four-year deal worth at least the $13 million annually he earned in 2009.

If Boras manages to get that kind of deal for Damon he's beyond amazing. $20 million over 2 is already crazy for Damon based on what guys like Abreu and Matsui received.
