LDF
as i keep on saying last yr, what is a player worth today if he hits, 25-30 hrs, 80-90 rbi's. so the same question today for big frank. what is going to happen in the offseason. how bout the love affair with kw and big frank? BridgeportHeather
I think they will resign him. There's no way I see him wearing any other uniform. He's said time after time that he wants to finish his career here. He's got some of the swagger back...There's no way he won't be here next year. BridgeportHeather
I'm thinking he'll get in the ballpark of $8-$10 million next year.
Rex Hudler
at what cost??????? esp with the way jr is crying cost control I believe this is how it will work with Frank next year...... Frank has the right to renew his option with the Sox at $6 million. If he declines, the Sox have the option to renew his contract at $8 million. If both decline, he is a free agent and can walk away. I know the $6 M and $8 M are the correct totals, but someone correct me if I am wrong on how the options work. Note: The option values for 2005 are $8M for Frank and $11M for the Sox. In 2006, Frank's option is $10M and the Sox option is $12M. Frank can also receive up to $2M in bonuses with a Top 10 MVP finish.

dasox24
All I have to say is that I hope Frank is a lifelong White Sox player. I would hate to see him leave and play for another team for a couple of years. I want to see Frank get his 500th homerun in a White Sox uniform. Chisoxfn
Lacrosse is really fun. I like Rugby a lot. But my favorite is beach football In regards to Frank I wouldn't be all that shocked to see him gone at the end of the year. The Sox are going to have to move a few guys simply because the positions are all crowded in the wrong area. Why invest so much money in DH/LF/1st baseman when the team could really use a shortstop and 2nd baseman (If Alomar is gone) and they could also use another reliever. Its just not wise to have all your money typed up in that slot, especially if the guy isn't the best out there. If the Sox were smart, they'd unload at least one of Konerko and Thomas. In the past I would of said the Sox would be nuts to move Konerko over Thomas, but Thomas contract is better cause of the mutual options while Konerko has a much more guaranteed deal. I'd hope for Konerko to hit the hell out of the ball the next couple months and then the Sox can deal him for good value and spend his money and what they free up losing some other guys on resigning Colon or signing Ponson and then making a run at Tejada. Tejada may be a bit over-rated but having him at short would be awesome. You get a guy that can produce at a position where production is typically limited. You can find guys to whack the s*** out of the ball for cheap..typically (Someone like Brad Fullmer only makes 2 mill) but to get a shortstop to do that is difficult. I expected someone to say something about my signature because, afterall, this is a baseball site. At first, I thought you were saying lacrosse sucks, but then I realized that you tried to make it look like I said it.

Capn12
in no way, shape or form do the Sox need to even consider moving Frank Thomas. He is this franchise, and what alot of Sox fans, me included, identify this team by. He is the reason alot of folks started following this team, and he deserves to finish his career in the Sox #35. CLee or Konerko has to be the one(s) who are moved if anyone.
Jim Fainter
Tejada's value might go down a bit, but with so many stupid GM's out there someone will bid against himself and force the price up. I can't see him coming our way next year.

Frank declines his $6m option thinking that the Sox will want to keep him and exercise the option at $8M in effect giving him a $2m raise. But if the Sox don't exercise the option, then Frank is now a free agent. The Sox might not exercise the option for many reasons, like Jason mentioned. I think with Frank bouncing back the way he has, the club and Frank will be amicable about everything and be up front with each other. The Sox could tell them that they can afford Frank at $6M but not $8M and leave it up to him. Lots of possible scenarios.
