Idea: Overbay for Armstrong & McCulloch?

I'd do it in a heartbeat. Those are two guys who will never sniff the majors. I am not sure why another team would even want those two to be honest.

That would be getting rid of the last of the failed 1st rounders, plus I think the Jays are looking for a catcher. They had discussed a deal of Overbay to the D-Backs for Chris Snyder.

If Toronto was looking to shed salary, Overbay's $7 mill. would be one way. Yet they were looking at Chris Snyder, who is owed $11.25 mill. over the next 2 years!? Not sure if they want to add a decent catcher or shed salaries.

It would likely mean more than Armstrong and McCulloch for Overbay, like say a bullpen arm like Nunez. If the sox added players, they could prob. have Tor. add in money to a deal.

If the sox did move Konerko to DH, it might keep him healthier, which would also mean more productive at the plate. I do like the idea of adding in a lefty bat that can hit 30 + doubles as well as between 15-20 HR's.

a 26 year old catcher with a .287 obp in AAA last year and a 24 year old failed first rounder who barely breaks 90 mph and had a 4.58 ERA for a guy with a .372 obp last year (.363 career) with 51 extra base hits?

sure sign me up...maybe toronto will throw in halladay too

I think i'm going to make an earnest effort at getting McCulloch's autograph this spring. My Broadway efforts were a spectacular failure last year, and i figure i might as well give it another go. Oh, Kyle if only you were a lefty, you might have an undeserved, but serious chance of making this team.

PS what is it with the Sox and all this "gap hitter" nonsense? This team needs some f***ing power. We already have the King of Gap Hitters and we just moved him to 2B.

I'm assuming the theory is that gap hitters will be more consistent than homerun hitters and the Sox need more consistency at the plate. Just my assumption.

I have three McCulloch baseball cards signed.

It doesn't sound like we even have $7M to spend in the first place, but if we did, I damn sure wouldn't spend it on Lyle Overbay. Give them some prospects and Linebrink or no deal IMO.

If you throw in Linebrink, maybe they also send a moderate prospect back with Overbay?

You killed the thread with your bloody statistics! To be fair though, I think he was platooning with Kevin Millar a lot this past season.

I don't think Linebrink has any positive value. On the open market he'd probably get 2/$5M or less, but his contract still pays him 2/$10.5M.

I wonder if the Jays would do something like Linebrink + Santeliz + Infante + $2M in 2011 for Overbay.

Because gap hitters will hit more HRs at the Cell, while HR hitters won't necessarily hit more doubles.

Overbay is a 7+ million dollar, 32 year old, first baseman who has a career .812 OPS, he really doesnt have much value. He could probably find a place on the Sox, but I really wouldnt give up much for him at all, and a Linebrink and others type swap sounds fair.
