my point was, that we live with "threats" everyday.

So those who feel that now we'll be threatened because of a jail in rural Illinois, aren't seeing the whole picture.

I have yet to see a single person say that there are no other threats until that jail were to happen. That is just making stuff up.

Josh Marshall´s clearest, most thought-out post in a while (apparently there is news worth covering besides the Moons and Palin)

Again, I really don´t think this is a republican/democrat issue, there is no clear line drawn between those who support this and not, and why. This is a new perspective fostered since a great tragedy. But, again, I think we should remember, these men are not special. They are evil. And now we show how petty and silly they are. They are murderers, evil murderers, not symbols, not martyrs, just low-lifes who will now spend the rest of their lives in a 4x8 cell learning just how nice American hospitality can be.

Any self-respecting prosecutor who wants to be fast-tracked to judgeship is going to be knocking motherf***ers over for the chance to put KSM away. He's not getting acquitted. His conviction is a foregone conclusion.

Then the question is...would housing these guys cause any reasonably significant increase in the level of threat people are under? I can't for the life of me fathom how it would.

Playing devils advocate, my hometown houses a maximum security prison, where they also happen to do all of the executions for the state of Indiana. We have had a few escapes, including three inmates who were out for about a week. Escapes do happen in our prison system, it isn't a big leap to think of escaped terrorists running around.

While that I understand...I will note that there's a difference between the Michigan City Max. Security facility and a legit Supermax.

It would probably be a supermax wouldn't it?

Yes, it would be bolstered to be like Florence or Tamms.

This is not a zero threat - but it is a very, very miniscule one.

I figure if say, for example, al-Qaida staged a massive raid and freed terrorists out of the Supermax, then we have other problems... the fact that they had that capability in the first place and we couldn't do anything about it. If they have that capability then it can be used elsewhere.

Yeah, it would be very difficult, and take a serious armed force, to crack prisoners out of a Florence or Tamms type facility. No way AQ has that sort of capability here, if they did, they would have already done a whole lot more damage elsewhere.
