Steve9347
I wouldn't pick him... there's no way he leaves the NBA!
knightni
There is a school of thought out there that says that while size in receivers/tes is important, there's a point where you actually can be too tall to be effective. Usually over 6'6". I'd say that he'd be drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round by name only, then be made to prove his football skills.

At his size, add 30 pounds, he could be Dwight Freeney x 2.
lostfan
I think the only people that height are DLs, OLs (which he isn't bulky enough for) or TEs.

knightni
QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 06:02 PM) I think the only people that height are DLs, OLs (which he isn't bulky enough for) or TEs. Kind of like Teyo Johnson. Heck of a big college WR at Stanford, but he was too slow and huge to be an NFL WR. Then, when he got drafted, he couldn't adjust to TE with the Raiders and fell out of pro football.
Chisoxfn
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 10:30 AM) If really runs a 4.4 then he'd be a top 5 pick. Do you play him at WR or put him on the ends. With his strength he could hypothetically be a completely dominant DE. Or a dominant WR. Either way, if James hypothetically went the route of FB instead of Basketball I think he'd ultimately be a #1 overall type of pick. If you are putting him in the draft now, knowing that he hasn't played the game in years, he'll have an extreme learning curve and I'd think he'd still go in the 1st round but wouldn't make an immediate impact and the only place you could really draft him would be at the wide-out position because I think him picking up DE on the fly would be too difficult. In his first season I assume he'd be used on limited plays, particularly in the end-zone where you could use his height and size combo on jump-balls. MattZakrowski
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) He'd already be the Chicago Bears best player sadly. Updated
Chisoxfn
QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) Kind of like Teyo Johnson. Heck of a big college WR at Stanford, but he was too slow and huge to be an NFL WR. Then, when he got drafted, he couldn't adjust to TE with the Raiders and fell out of pro football. Except Lebron, if he does run a 4.4 40, is faster than most Wr's so he has the speed to play there. Bigger guys usually don't have the quickness to be effective on the outside and that is why they are moved to the TE position. Lebron evidently has that so there is no reason he couldn't be at the WR position.
knightni
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 06:29 PM) In his first season I assume he'd be used on limited plays, particularly in the end-zone where you could use his height and size combo on jump-balls. Rowand44
QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 04:44 PM) There is a school of thought out there that says that while size in receivers/tes is important, there's a point where you actually can be too tall to be effective. Usually over 6'6". Probably because a lot of them lose coordination. If Lebron runs a legit 4.4 then you got a guy that's 6'8" with a 4.4 40 and a 40+ vertical, there's just too much physical talent there to not be a top 5 pick, I don't care if he never played football in his life(and has been pointed out in this thread, he has). Balta1701
Next question...how long would his post-draft holdout be?
iamshack
He'd be a stud TE. I don't think there is a chance he still runs a 4.4 though...
knightni
Was this 4.4 in pads? How long ago was it?

The dude is way bigger now than he was then though...I doubt he can still move that fast.
knightni
He's had leg injuries and a lot of wear and tear since high school. I doubt that he'd break 4.7.
DrunkBomber
Im very skeptical of a 4.4 forty time. Also, WR or even tight end is one thing but you need a lot more than size to be a good OLB or DE. I could just see him crying to the refs if he couldnt make a play and wanting a flag thrown like he does in the NBA.

Quin
QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 06:21 PM) I wonder how he would do in baseball . . . LeBron could do any sport and dominate. He's the best athlete ever alive, and everyone knows baseball is all athleticism. I'd take him in the 2nd or 3rd round, just to sell merchandise. If he can play, that's good too. Guys that tall seem to always wind up being a little bit too awkward on the swing IMO, with the one obvious exception.
