Paint it Black
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 03:56 PM) He brings it up in threads that have nothing to do with Walker, then will complain about others talking about Walker too much. I apologize, I do not post here as often as I should, and therefore, did not know any back story. I assumed it was some Walker vs anti-Walker feud going on. spiderman
QUOTE (soxfan-kwman @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 02:35 PM) I agree, Tony Pena will be good in 2010. A whole spring training with the sox, working with cooper, & a new season to start over. He just has a few things to get him where he needs to be & we could have another nasty reliever to go with Big Bad Bobby & Thorton. I think he's a key to the pen regardless of whether Jenks is kept or not. If they keep Jenks, then Thornton has the 8th inning, but they currently don't have a guy who can throw in those 6th and 7th innings. Pena might be that guy. Linebrink is horrible. There are some younger guys (Hudson and Torres) who will probably have to grow into a role, and Carrasco is more of a 2 or 3 inning guy, extremely valuable, for a struggling starter. greg775
I think Tony Pena will be very good in 2010. In the long run we will all like that trade . We're counting on a lot of guys to improve drastically next year. Many assume Rios and Pena and Liney and Dotel will automatically be better. Yet a lot on the board believe Pods, who had an excellent season, cannot duplicate next year and that no way Dye can bounce back. Why do some guys get a break where people assume they will suddenly excel and others can't get the same support? It's something about human nature. People are sick of Dye and Pods I guess and hope for the best for others like Rios and Pena. Personally I thought Pena sucked with the exception of 1-2 outings where he showed some nastiness. I think Dye is done if he insists on fielding, partially because he can't field anymore and he had a massive drop-off, and is getting up there in age with his knee issues. Pods I don't think can duplicate last year, but could do something in between his 05 season and last year. So maybe .290-.300 avg, a few triples, I seriously wouldn't pencil Pods for more than 4 HR, steal around 35 bases (full year, since he) but get caught maybe 20 times... Or he can follow the Pods trend of Good Year-Bad Year-Good Year and completely suck... Rios is just expected to bounce back to his average at the least. A full season with Coop and the Sox may help Pena get his mind in the right place...but he does have really good potential. He just needs to get it. Linebrink I think everyone is expecting at best one good half and thats it. No one mentions Dotel...
Kalapse
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 21, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) We're counting on a lot of guys to improve drastically next year. It's real simple, just look at the 2 things you constantly ignore: age and track record. In Pena's case ability and chance weighs in heavily. Ability is also working against Dye IMO since he doesn't do some of the things other old sluggers tend to do in order to stick around longer (ie: draw walks). Dotel wouldn't have to be better, just be the same guy he's been since arriving in Chicago and he has great value to a club. In one hand you have a 29 year old OF who you will almost undoubtedly get outstanding defense from and a 28 year old reliever with a terrific arm and modest success in his big league career. In the other hand is a couple of OF in their mid 30's, one of whom is now a full time DH candidate and the other played over his head in 2009. Not hard to figure out.
