i'm actually really hoping the sox are the "mystery AL team" that supposedly has a deal in place for milton bradley......obps the last 4 years.....370, .402, .438, .378....id lead him off and play him at DH....probably nobody else would, but id do it

I know I often come off as heavily statistic oriented but this is one of those cases where the numbers really mean next to nothing to me, I wouldn't want him anywhere near the White Sox.

i just feel like funny things like this always happen on the north side where some guys just don't fit...i'm not saying hes a great teammate or would work here, but if they cubs pay 8 of the remaining 20 mil on his deal...moving him to full time DH, in a situation where I really think he would have the added incentive of proving the cubs wrong, would be good for a guy like milton, and i think i would take the risk.....obviously im just blowing smoke here, but don't forget KW called Peavy asking him about a former teammate...everyone assumed it was Adrian Gonzalez, but you never know (however, it could have been henry blanco for that matter)

he hasnt been able to fit in anywhere , i dont ever see it happening either. i cant imagine that if a player was told "hey did u hear, milton bradley is ur new teamate" that they would be happy or excited at all

The latest from chuck garfien:

6:32 p.m.

Matsui Anyone??

After a slow first day, Kenny Williams was in deep bunker mode today, holed up in his hotel room for hours, talking to teams about trades, and yes, talking to agents, specifically to the man who represents free agent outfielder Hideki Matsui.

The New York Daily News is reporting that the Sox have emerged as a 'serious contenders to sign Matsui, who hit .274 last season for the Yankees, with 28 homers and 90 RBI in 142 games.

The hold up might be the price tag. Matsui made $13 million last season. He'd have to play for much less with the White Sox. Probably in the $4-6 million range.

Asked about Matsui, Williams said, "He's a good player. But I don't know if we're there just yet."

Williams is one who will pounce when he sees an opportunity. Clearly, there has been a shift in dialogue here at the meetings, and it has changed Williams expectations. After sensing that he'd be busier after the meetings, he now sounds like something could actually happen this week (other than the 3-year deal for Mark Teahen).

Said Williams, "You always like to get better. While we're here, we might as well do something. Jerry spent a lot of money for the rooms."

Honestly, the American League Central isn't strong enough and the White Sox lineup isn't weak enough for me to be willing to take that chance. The stories coming from some of the clubhouses he's been a part of and just how much he teammates despised him (it's not just the Cubs) are more than enough of a deterrent. Then there's the whole injury thing.

I really can't believe there is a White Sox fan alive that wants Milton Bradley on the White Sox.

I agree.

And if you know anything about Kenny Williams, he's not going to bring that psycho into the clubhouse.

Me either...I am hoping the Cubs are stuck with him. I can't imagine anyone would really even consider that nut job.

That would be interesting. Wouldn't it be something if Bradley found a home with the Sox and hit .325 getting along with the clubhouse. Now, I try not to let anything on the northside cloud my opinions of the Sox, but it would be sweet if Bradley tore the cover off of the ball for the Sox while the cubs paid his salary. I know he has a lot of baggage but so did Jurassic Carl.

Not even close to the same kind of baggage.

I think you're right, and I hope you're right. I played fantasy baseball and stratomatic, just like a lot of people on this board, but real life baseball is a little different. It isn't all about the numbers. This guy has pretty much had an issue everywhere he's been. They made it sound like he was a model citizen in Texas, then they found out he sat out games with minor injuries so he wouldn't take a chance at hurting his stats. He's been an asshole his entire career. He isn't going to change.

It really depends on the price.

About Matsui's salary - I just don't see us paying him $4-6 million annually and him taking such an offer. He'd want at least around $8-10 million a year.

edit: thats not to say they don't exist, i just haven't heard the god awful things that would drive me to never touch a player regardless of cost

There's a better chance Brent Lillibridge wins the triple crown in 2010 than Milton Bradley going through a season without issues.

If Brad Penny can get one year and $7.5 million, what do you think Matsui can get? Hell, Scutaro got $6 million a year.

Plus, we're competing with the Angels here for him.

He's been known as trouble from the beginning. Montreal traded him and KW really wanted him back then, but Cleveland got him. He doesn't stay anywhere very long because he's nothing but trouble.

In NY, they have been saying that Matsui will only command $5M in the US or he can go back to Japan if he wants more. The Yankees are not interested in resigning him.

That's like the absolute peak of his ceiling though. The floor would be him starting up some s*** after getting benched for hitting .220 with basically no power for about a month and a half, then watching as the Sox release him and eat the rest of his s***ty contract because no other team in baseball would touch him with a ten foot pole. The risk is way to high for a team with payroll constraints.

My guess is the Tigers are the mystery team. They have tons of bad contracts and today's deal probably pushed Robertson, Willis, and possibly even Bonderman out of the plans.
