another pitcher in the s***ter.

according to mlb and espn. in stl the love affair with Garrett Stephenson and stl is over and stl may entertain offers for him. but with matt moris on the dl, things may chg until at least the offseason. however according to stephenson he is not all too please with tony larussa and wish the chg could happen now.

ummmmm

Seriously, if they are hurting that badly for pitching, we ought to see what we can get for White, Koch, and or Porzio.

ahhhh i think we are talking about a gm who is smarter than kw.

but that is a nice thought, :D

if you were a gm, would you want to trade for those players you mention? :)

No, not by a long shot. But we don't know how desperate they are. Last year they picked up White after Rockies cut him. If they use Porzio properly, they might get some good use out of him. Maybe they have some AA shortstop that we could use. Nothing more would be expected.

It's getting late, so I'm dreaming.

i might be wrong on this so i am letting you know. stl next to la and either bos or balt has an almost barren farm system. but i will check and brb.

STL's farm system is horrible. It's probably the 2nd worst next to Boston. They only have 2 prospects that I'd want, and they are Dan Haren and Blake Hawksworth. Here are reports on both players:

1. Dan Haren - SP - DOB: 9/17/80 - ETA: 2004

Notes: Haren had a great minor league track record entering this season and has done nothing to tarnish it. He demolished Double A with a 0.82 ERA over 55 innings before being promoted to AAA-Memphis where he has improved with every start. Haren thrives on impeccable control that lets him paint the corners with ease. His current ERA in AAA (4.68) will undoubtedly go down and he should compete for a spot in the St. Louis rotation in the spring of 2004, perhaps seeing a lateseason call-up this year if he gets on a roll. Haren has the potential of a #2-#4 starter.

2. Blake Hawksworth - SP - DOB: 3/1/83 - ETA: 2007

Notes: The Cardinals got a steal when they signed Hawksworth as a draft and follow leading up to the 2002 draft. Like many Cardinals prospects, Hawksworth has great offspeed stuff. However, he also packs a solid low-90's fastball and the potential to be a top of the rotation starter. He's outclassed his competition in Low A-Peoria this year with a 1.77 ERA, 49 strikeouts, 9 walks and 0 home runs in 45 2/3 innings. He is ready for a bigger challenge and deserves as a promotion. His upside reminds me of Kurt Ainsworth.

Other than these two players there is one more guy that I like in the Cardinals system, and that is Stuart Pomeranz. But, he was a 2nd round draft pick for STL this year, and I'm not sure if there's a rule about trading guys who just signed. He signed on Wednesday with STL.
