caulfield12 Posted January 12, 2010 Share Posted January 12, 2010 The latest report on Delgado was that the Mets had scouted him twice in PR and he was having a hard time moving at 1B...and that they wanted to continue to monitor the situation and look for some improvement. Toronto's interested in bringing him back as well, but they already have Lind and Overbay, so that doesn't seem to make as much sense as the Mets' best option at 1B right now might be Murphy. Branyan and Blalock are both "not so good hitters." Branyan was a good story for the first half of last year, but he came back to reality the second half. The only reason why he has lasted in the majors so long is because he's always provided a lefty bat off the bench who could hit the ball a country mile at any given time, and play below average at multiple positions. Blalock is always a question mark, extremely streaky, and you never know what you get from him. He's an all or nothing guy, and I don't consider those guys good unless they put up RIDICULOUS numbers. Kind of a bad example considering two of these guys are awesome, but do you think anyone in the twins org or any twin fans care about having three lefties (Mauer, Morneau, Kubel) bat in a row, considering they get the job done? Besides, if I was gonna have it heavy to either side, I'd prefer it right handed to help avoid left handed specialists, and righties generally dont have as much trouble against lefties.
