I've been out of the loop. Did Dye sign with anyone?

Funny how the AL has the DH and few guys want to play that part on a team. I'm all for getting rid of the DH.

I guess there are worse options than Thome as D.H. Maybe Kenny hasn't finished going after the over 40 has beens who might have that magical year.

He hasn't yet. Supposedly the Rangers had a three million dollar offer out to him, while they had the offer out to Vlad. Vlad accepted first, so JD is still looking.

Dye at 3M would look perfect on the southside, imo.

I'd agree 90%, but I have some concern about the lineup being so RH heavy. Perhaps someone can talk me out of that concern. I think I'd prefer Thome at that money, but I wouldn't be upset about Dye, who I think is likely to rebound.

You have Kotsay on the bench for tough righties. Plus I'd rather have a good hitter than a not so good hitter, regardless of having a few too many righties.

The latest report on Delgado was that the Mets had scouted him twice in PR and he was having a hard time moving at 1B...and that they wanted to continue to monitor the situation and look for some improvement.

Toronto's interested in bringing him back as well, but they already have Lind and Overbay, so that doesn't seem to make as much sense as the Mets' best option at 1B right now might be Murphy.

The nice thing for a team in the AL would be...he doesn't have to move at 1b, he only has to move with the bat and on the bases.

Or for that matter, Branyan, Blalock, or Delgado?

I do consider Blalock a not-so-good hitter. A team with intentions of winning a division and World Series should not bring in such a glaring question mark player to be the full-time DH.

Branyan and Blalock are both "not so good hitters." Branyan was a good story for the first half of last year, but he came back to reality the second half. The only reason why he has lasted in the majors so long is because he's always provided a lefty bat off the bench who could hit the ball a country mile at any given time, and play below average at multiple positions.

Blalock is always a question mark, extremely streaky, and you never know what you get from him. He's an all or nothing guy, and I don't consider those guys good unless they put up RIDICULOUS numbers.

Agreed at 100%

Good hitters are good hitter. Kind of a bad example considering two of these guys are awesome, but do you think anyone in the twins org or any twin fans care about having three lefties (Mauer, Morneau, Kubel) bat in a row, considering they get the job done?

Besides, if I was gonna have it heavy to either side, I'd prefer it right handed to help avoid left handed specialists, and righties generally dont have as much trouble against lefties.

From 2007-2009, Jermaine Dye has put up a .801 OPS against righties and a .913 OPS against lefties. His OPS against LHP was at least 50 points higher than against RHP every one of those single seasons. You can say good hitters are good hitters, and Jermaine Dye is a good hitter. However, he's an average to even below average hitter against RHP (esp. if he's less than 100%) and an above average hitter against LHP. The numbers don't lie.

JD just doesn't fit in this lineup right now as constructed.

Since when is an .801 OPS below average? You are also factoring in his 2009 season, which was terrible and he's still got an .801 OPS vs righties.

I could counter by saying that in both 2007 and 2009 his OPS against righties was about .760, and the year that stands out from the last 3 is 2008 where he was much higher.

Pirates sign DJ Carrasco.

People with knowledge of the signing said that the right-hander will make $950,000 next year, with incentives that can take it up to $1.2 million.

Not a bad deal at all for the Bucos, especially if D.J. pitches as well or better like he did with us.

Paul Sullivan said the cubs are kicking the tires on Dye as a 4th OF/platoon with fukodome. Is fukodome one of the bigger busts in recent memory? I think Sullivan said he hit .259.

Thank Jermaine Dye & Iguchi/Takatsu for the Sox not signing him. KW offered him more money than the Cubs did, but he wanted to play RF and wanted to go a team where he would be the 1st Japanese player.
